Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik suing fior cruel and inhumane treatment

I hate reading this because I become conflicted about my stance on the death penalty...I do not support the death penalty...

The problem is...at this moment...the only thought I have...why is he still alive?

Suing is another punch in the gut to all of the families of the people he killed IMO.

I must echo the same sentiment. I'm usually fairly liberal on these things but after seeing his [STRIKE]cell[/STRIKE] dorm room; that is just obscene after what he did. And to have the nerve to complain and sue, twisting the knife again into his victims. He clearly has no remorse and no empathy for those he hurt. He should be locked in a real cell and fed pig slop.

Without the death penalty, there cannot be justice in some cases. There is simply no way to pay for a life taken deliberately without forfeiting a life.

All the equivocation in the world cannot change that.

Rehabilitation, or potential rehabilitation is not even an issue. The life is forfeit if justice is to be meted out.

The feebleness of "he can do no more harm" is fallacious. His very existence is harm to those who every day know that he lives while those he killed are wiped out forever. Every breath he takes is an injustice.

His victims' blood cries from the ground where he shed it. It is an indictment of him forever.

And it doesn't require bitterness to say it. It is justice. It has been for tens of thousands of years, and it is correct.

Yet another mis-leading article as it states that it is the sort of cell he might expect to have, not the actual cell.

I guess it's a matter of interpretation, but, as I read it, if it isn't this exact cell, it's one very similar.

THIS is the cell where Breivik is expected to spend the rest of his days — ironically at a former concentration camp built by his Nazi heroes.

Brevik's lawsuit is another failure on his part.

Slavering over retribution against him is a sign of mental imbalance.

Unless one is justifiably disturbed as an immediate relation of the victims, his lawsuit should just be disregarded, dispassionately.

Breivik's cell is quite palatial, by American standards. He even has a computer and is taking courses in political science while writing a book.

He even has his own workout area.

This is a picture of a cell in the isolation wing of his prison.

It may be misleading to be showing the cell of another prisoner.

Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between.

It's another crime against the victims that the maximum prison time for killing 77 people is 21 years. When he is released he will be in his 50s. Easily young enough to kill even more people. Sheer stupidity.

As I mentioned earlier, that is the maximum sentence according to Norwegian law. However, the sentence can be extended when it expires, and, judging by Breivik's behaviour, it will be extended. Even an American life sentence allows for parole after 25 years. It's only 4 years shorter in Norway.

This.

The severity and scope of his terrorism guarantees that he won't be released.

His mental state guarantees that he won't be released...so even after he serves his original sentence, he will be confined for life as a forensics mental health case.

I expect he'll actually be killed in prison at some point, which is one of the reasons he is being sequestered.

I would also note that in a case like Breiviks, where he is depressive, it is unlikely that he has much in it at all that could be used to make a ligature or other tool for self-harm.

It may be this degree of deprivation, plus, I'm sure, an incredibly restricted access to electronic media that he is fighting against.

Justice in this case is making him live in almost near isolation.

Not always. There is life without parole. They never get out.

Not enough butter? I'd tell him to 'piss off' and give him Oleo (margarine) instead. And he should watch it, the guards might be peeing in his coffee.

Cases like Breivik's cause me to hold firm for the death penalty for crimes against humanity. (The hideous injustices in the use of the the death penalty are another matter entirely.) Every concentration camp guard, SS officer, Vopo, or Stasi officer who dies of natural causes is an injustice.

Norway hanged Breivik's hero, Quisling. I wonder if anyone in that country really believes that was wrong?

It's indeed a conundrum, a total quandary, a contradiction.

I feel the same way. I'm absolutely and (allegedly) unconditionally against the death penalty...BUT...this...???

No way that he, and former Stasi, etc. should still be alive for any reason.

But, then, if I put these people on "the other side" by saying they shouldn't be kept alive, it immediately brings to question WHERE the line should be.

There are people who would embrace the death penalty for somebody who downloads ONE picture of a person from the Internet, where the person is actually 18 years old but LOOKS like they're 16, or for stealing a doughnut.

Not to mention that I think some of the Presidential candidates would relish the same fate for us, for simply being who we are...

Death penalty........ Did Texas execute an innocent man?

DNA evidence clears inmate on death row

That's only 2 examples. And I'm against the death penalty. And, my cousin was murdered and his killer was caught. That man is in prison for the rest of his life. NO possibility of parole. IMHO, it's a far worse fate to wake up every day for the rest of your life behind walls. Executing them gives them an 'out'. They don't have to face those walls for decades.

As for Breivik's lawsuit, I hope the judges tell him to take a flying leap.

As little as I love social conservatism, I find that statement unsupported by the facts. Whereas several of the Republican candidates are against gay marriage, or even equal rights in the law, I have heard of no one suggesting criminalization of homosexuality, much less the death penalty.

Could you please state whom you accuse of harboring this degree of extremism and based upon what statements?

Breivik has his own, custom cell in the prison. The photos in post #7 above are of his actual room, not the cell of some other prisoner.

If I read the Sun article correctly, the photos were taken before Breivik came to occupy the room, so the possessions presumably belong to someone else.

Easy, he gave a speech at the hatefest in Des Moines on November 7 (or some date close to that), where evangelist Mike Bickle (and I think others) also spoke to the effect that GAY PEOPLE MUST BE EXTERMINATED. Cruz (and Jindal, Huckabee - and there was a fourth there, NOT Trump, I forget which one now) wasn't going to go all the way to Des Moines to an event without knowing something about what was going to go on.

I feel justified in attributing at least some degree of "guilt by association," which isn't something I usually do.

I wonder if Sally Kern was also there, and maybe Ted Nugent, the Duck Dynasty guy, etc.? They'd be down with it, I think.
