I do remember library cards like that, but it is such a faint memory.

It's a clear memory for me since I read about six books a week every summer so I dealt with those cards a lot. The system at school was similar.

I know at least 2 libraries that keep those real cards in small drawers as a tribute to their long history.

Reminds me -- the card catalog area at university covered an area larger than a tennis court. It looked a lot like that except on the right were all the microfiche readers plus the machines that could turn microfilm into documents.

I actually had that issue. It was seminal (pun intended) in shaping my tastes in male erotica, and yes, there were some other pics of him in the layout. I believe one involves a speedo.

Although I am currently about 25 years behind the times where technology is concerned, it wasn't always that way. I was the first on my block to get a VCR and I remember the first video rental stores. They had the tapes all standing upright in glass cases like an art gallery. If you wanted to rent one, you had to get the clerk so they could unlock it for you. Then they, not you, would bring it up to the counter. Then you had to sign the receipt and agree to the rental terms which included a fee if you didn't rewind it.
