I know what you mean - might have something to do with the new arrangements here. A lot of things are not working (for me anyway) or it could just be that's it's summer time and a lot of people are either on holidays or spending more time outside rather than being on the computer. Glad that you are still around though.
I know of several who left because they are tired of being attacked everytime they make a post. One left for all the rants about his post count and his congratulations thread (1st he had in over 5 months). One left because all his buddies he would chat with have left also.

I'm one of those mostly invisible JUBBERs who logs on virtually everyday, and if I have something worthwhile to contribute, I will, and if not, I prefer not to annoy people and waste their time with my inane drivvle, which explains why in 2 years or so I have contributed to fewer than 100 threads.
In other words I wouldn't particularly be missed by anyone.
But I have been away for 3 - 4 weeks and I would think that it being Summer (although that's a bit of a joke in this rain washed-out August here in the UK
) a lot of people may well be away from their beloved JUB at the moment.

pianist is on vacation... RL is keeping a low profile to make sure he doesnt offend melody with hijacking.... jake and eric have a new baby.... a few people are moving rignt now... a few guys are in transit to college its the end of the month, remember...
thats only one of many that i know of that have anything to do with board drama

Actually I noticed last night that we had about 170 people viewing hot topics around nine or ten oclock. I also noticed quite a few threads were started by new members.
that is a really big number of people. Usually only the celebrity forum gets that kind of traffic in the evening.

I forgot about that. I get so confused with days and dates these days.
I suppose I should explain before people start thinking I'm going senile or something. I'm writing a story in the Story Forum and it's virtually a 'real-time' story. Right now, the chapter I'm writing occurs in May of this year, and it's a Saturday. To me, today is Saturday, May 20. School isn't even out for Summer yet. (Other people here can attest to my occasional confusion. It's embarrassing at times.)
Nobody is getting attacked every time they post. It is obvious that the congratulations threads are pissing a lot of people off... perhaps people could stop posting so many. Maybe just one a day with a list of all the people who have reached whatever level of posts is worthy of getting one of those threads... it would stop them cluttering up the whole forum.
I have noticed that too but often they are repeats... we need some long term members to start some threads that are original and interesting and that require more than a one word reply.

I agree with the whole variety issue in new threads SB.
alot of the other forums draw off those threads though... if its about coming out it goes there.....if religion then it gets shuffled off there... CE&P forums...etc
I started a really popular thread about favorite divas... it was fun and there was alot of participation. People posted their favorite Divas and we all tried to find a youtube clip for the person's fave singer.. the posts in the thread hit over a hundred in about two days.... but that thread went to entertainment where it langushed and died.
I have been thinking, and its hard to create a thread that
A... is interesting but wont turn into a riot
or
B... is interesting but wont get shuffled off into a different forum
in the end, people just make congrats threads because its ok to be friendly in it. They have been around forever, so i dont guess that they will be going anywhere soon.
I think the mods are being very accomodating right now and are trying to keep the peace in a way that wont incite yells of censorship. that means we are geting a bit scattered in the process.
so the hard questions...
DO we want censorship? if so, who decides what that will look like? will it be anything that has an arguement in it, or anything that says congrats? Will people be willing to accept such decisions? should we just wait for it to change by itself? ( it usually does in a few weeks anyway)

Andreus, I think you left out another reason a lot of people don't start new threads: "Hasn't been made already and shuffled onto some obscure page" because it might get merged and its hard to tell where your thread starts and the merged post ends.
Persoanlly, if a thread has a really high amount of pages, I tend to avoid it because I don't want to sift through more than a month's worth of posts.

it actually went into fun and games
and since I dont use the new thread function, I have to choose which forums to focus on and weed through... that is just not one of the ones that holds me for very long
im sure others that dont use the new threads function have a similar experience
subscribe to all the threads you post in and then you just have to go to my setting and they are all there.

I assume it was because it had so many youtube links in it, but it was meant to be something for all of us to listen to as we post in Hot topics
And even though i asked that it be moved back and was told that it would be, it never was
that can be frustrating and has a tendency to stomp on creative threads in Hot Topics

i dont think you are straying off topic
and
i think you have put in words very clearly why nothing really can be done. I think the current system is the best we can do... (but i am still annoyed about that thread, lol)...and we just need to be more patient with each other and use the new thread button more.
in the end, more choices can only help us have fun, and the mods and admins cant make people have ideas for threads that people will like.
as long as the rules seem evenly executed and we all have the same playing feild, thats as much as we can all realistically ask for, so in the end i let the thread move issue drop without much fuss (and only a dash of pouting)

JUB seems to be less user friendly.
Galleries are difficult to access.
Clicking on links in message boards postings lead me to a message that tells me that the poster is not registered and does not have the right to post.

Well, it is the height of the summer season. There are many other things we could all be doing now.
Even so, in my case, I've stayed away waiting for the "dust" to settle from all the site changes. It's been frustrating coming here and I found the fun was gone for me.
I'm hoping that soon I might enjoy this place as much as I used to....

I think that the recent changes have had an affect to a degree - but I also agree that some of it is 'seasonal'.
Certainly, as I've been dropping in whenever I have access to a PC, I've found that morale seems very low, and some of the people I expected to see posting... haven't been.
The disappearance of the galleries and the return of them under more tighter ruling has annoyed some, but we will get used to it. Change isn't always regarded as good by some members, but if it keeps the site open and keeps JD & Seth free from lawsuits and jail, then we have to catch the ball and run with it.
It would have been miraculous if such a massive upgrade as the one we recently undertook didn't produce some problems but as the problems such as as maintaining one's login status etc made JUB incredibly frustrating to use, I would have probably done the same as danjjo and stayed away for a while.
We'll recover and start and having fun again - I'm totally sure of it!!

I haven't noticed that many people missing, but I never know what's going on. I don't think things around here are any more hostile than usual. I hope no one left because they hated the congratulatory threads. It requires no effort to skip over them. As for technical problems, things are getting better. Maybe people are just busy.
I try to come up with interesting things to post. Things that are "food for thought". Most of my threads are not popular. I do post jokes and silly things once in awhile.
