  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Not so sure I want to visit Australia anymore

Well...actually the brown snake... which really IS quite common especially where towns have encroached into the bush in the warmer eastern states... can be very aggressive. They are super quick and easily agitated... normally they take off but far more than most other snakes they will strike...

As for the Red Back spiders... my shed is full of them (as is everyone else's that I know...lol)... and thats where the mower, gym, bike is....

Ah... you just get used to it after a while....

Seriously.

Come on down fellas...we'd love to show you around!

Huntsman spiders - not a problem. Pick 'em up and put them outside, or let them eat the flies. Snakes - "they're more scared of you than you are of them" - and it's true. And what's this about the "venomous" goanna or sand-monitor? These lizards are big, and they have plenty of sharp and functional teeth, but they are not venomous.

And you don't have to eat vegemite.

Come on over!

Noted. Will keep it in mind. Thanx.

It's safe. I hate snakes and have survived as a country boy for 21 years on three farms which were full of Brown snakes, Red-Bellied Black snakes and Death Adders.

My man is leaving the USA and moving here to be with me so pls don't scare him.

gsdx pls come. You will love it here. We would enjoy the quality company.

I checked gsdx's picture again and it's definitely not a king brown snake (which is venomous), but a large olive python. This is non-venomous, as it kills by constriction.

*checks heart rate*
Ah, a healthy 168...

I could've done without this thread, thank you very much. Ever since I read about the box jellyfish (three weeks ago), I'm scared to death of these things. I mean, three minutes. I would probably take that time to run around screaming 'I'm going to die, I'm going to die', before actually dropping dead.
Please, please, please tell me these things only sting when you pick them up and try to strangle 'em or something. I don't think my nightmares can handle extremely venomous combined with terribly aggressive.

*shudders*

First of all, let me make it perfectly clear....I am such a fuckin wuss when it comes to snakes/spiders and the like!!!

After reading the above list of deadliest animals of the beautiful continent down-under, I am so afraid of goin there that it's just NOT funny!

I went to a web site that listed some of the deadliest "snakes" of the world and most of them are in Australia!

1. Fierce Brown Snake
(King Brown Snake)

2. Common Brown Snake
3. Taipan
4. Eastern Tiger Snake
5. Riesvie Tiger Snake
6. Beaked Sea Snake
7. Western Tiger Snake
8. Giant Black Tiger Snake
9. Death Adder
10. Western Brown Snake

Oh, btw, one refrence made a big joke of saying that these snakes were deadly ONLY to mice....yeah, right!

They also said that it's VERY rare for anyone to die of snake bites in Australia....

Now, that makes me feel really secure!

Whew, groan and sigh.....

Damn, you can't even go to the F, ing beach there for fear of running into the jelly fish, the crock, or so many other sea creatures that will kill you!

The sources also say that most of the venomous snakes of Australia have increased because they have NO creatures of prey that will eat them!

Man on man, I don't think I will be going to Sydney anytime in the future folks...

Sorry; but I told you, I'm a big wuss when it comes to this!!:mad::mad:!oops!!oops!!oops![-X[-X[-X:cry::cry::cry::eek::eek::eek:

"Spiders and Snakes" by JIM STAFFORD, 1974...

I remember when Mary Lou said, You wanna walk me home from
school? Well, I said, Yes, I do!
She said, I don't have to go right home and I would like to be alone some,
if you would.
I said, Me, too.

And so, we took a stroll, wound up down by the swimming hole
And she said, Do what you wanna do.
I got silly and found a frog in the water, by a hollow log,
And I shook it at her and I said, this frogs for you.

She said,
I don't like spiders and snakes,
And that ain't what it takes
To love me, you fool, you fool.
I don't like spiders and snakes,
And that ain't what it takes
To love me like I wanna be loved by you

I live in America, and there are spiders down in my basement!!!! I hate them, I killed every single one I saw! Good thing I'm living on campus now....

I will give Aus a visit, but to live there, might be not....don't like snake much...and dropping bears....ridikulus (enough to vanish 7 boggarts!) ;)

The picture was sent to me by an Aussie friend of mine and was only repeating what she said in her Email. She called it a 'King Brown Snake'.

And now I suppose you're going to tell me that this really isn't a bunyip!

Just hang out with yer mates & admire their "scenery", & one will definitely enjoy being "Down Under" (in any way one wishes to take that term). G'day!

Thanks for starting this thread, gsdx.
Can I just reassure everyone that , whilst we do have some dangerous critters in our country, there is little risk of actually being, bitten, stung, kicked, thwacked, swooped upon, infested with, taken by... our little darlings.

The Australian Government issues you with these suits upon your arrival at any of the larger airports.

Enjoy your stay!

Huntneo,
Couple of nice Aussie boys here in Sydney to show you around.;)
It's not that bad hear and in the outback common sense prevails. The crocks only eat folk with no common sense.

The best Aussie creature festival is Sydney Mardi Gras. Be sure to visit then, it's where the wild things roam.:-)

Well, damn! That seals it, then. No Australia for me! No thwacking!?? Outrageous!
