OMG!,
Lake!
Once again, you have managed to Entertain, Amuse, Excite, and Astound "Us"!
When I was growing up, my family tended to move every 3-5yr., at the direction of the Church Conference, that Dad was a member of, in his capacity as a Minster. Each place we moved to, as he was "promoted", was a little bigger than the last.
One was little more than a rural crossroad, along a state highway, with a gas station/general store, grain silo, the church, and a few houses. The one after that was a small village, tucked among surrounding hills. I understand the dynamics, perhaps all too well, of those types of communities.
As idyllic as they appear on the surface, the very darkest aspects of the Human Condition are hidden deep within them, too. Given the small populations, and therefore close personal contacts, when those demons become apparent, their Horror is magnified even more.
The other side of that coin is the Tremendous, and often surprising, Caring, and Support, that is so generously given by the overwhelming majority.
YOU have manged to capture, and convey, that sense of "General Family", quite accurately, and exceedingly well, throughout this Wonderful story.

THANK YOU!, Buddy!
All the more reasons to ... No Matter What ... and I do mean it Seriously ...
Keep Smilin'!!

Now ... get back to work, and let us know what happens.
