Obama and faith -- good, or bad?

I just wanted to say that my opposition to giving money to the churches has less to do with if they discriminate while hiring but when they discriminate while choosing who to accept for treatment.

Currently, even though they are spending our money, they can refuse to treat an american citizen because he/she is of another faith or has no faith at all.

To me thats unamerican.

I don't know that anyone is doing that only that under the Bush program they were allowed to do so.

And it looks to me like the same thing will be true under the Obama program.

Honestly the idea that we hire someone to help religious groups (or any group for that matter) learn how to get government money is absurd......especially when the government will have to borrow the money to give to those groups.

I'm not aware of any sort of treatment programs churches or religious groups have which are permitted to refuse service to anyone. Hospitals certainly can't! So what treatments are you referring to?

Can we at least agree that under the program faith based groups are allowed to discriminate when hiring?

That would mean they are exempted from civil right laws which also could mean they don't have to treat people of different faiths should they choose not to.

I'll admit maybe thats not happening very often if at all but it could happen under the law.

this link quotes from a speech Obama made back in July in which he said "If you get a federal grant you can't use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help and you can't discriminate against them or the people you hire on the basis of their religion.

They are exempted from civil right laws and the quote above does not indicate that that exemption is limited to their hiring practices.
