Obama Charming The Press

Y'all are lookin' at this all wrong!!! Obama is LUCKY to have people like NickCole and Chance1. They keep his name in the news ;)

It's fallacious and manipulative,

There's nothing fallacious or manipulative about stating I've been a registered Democrat for more than 30 years. It's a statement of fact, and whether or not anyone believes it is up to them. Anybody who's read my posts since I first logged on here would confirm that I am not "far right wing."

Personal information isn't welcomed or needed on this board.

It's not your place to determine that for anyone other than yourself.

No, your point is quite contrary to mine: People have different personal styles; some stand far from others, some stand close; some gesture, some don't; some touch others, some don't; and so on. I pointing out that what you call manipulation may just be Obama's personal style, whether he's out to get something or is just talking about, oh, the music at the inauguration.

I see. I misunderstood what you wrote.

What you attribute to "personal style" is beside the point I was making and, frankly, meaningless to this discussion. Obviously we each have our own "personal style." People who use seduction and manipulation will use whatever personal style they have. George Bush uses a folksy fratboy kind of "personal style" which was manipulative. Obama uses his particular "personal style."

Now, from the way you read what you already wanted to see into what I said, I could conclude that your style is deceit, and from now on interpret everything you say in that light. Does that sound fair?

Any interpretation is "fair." It may not be accurate, but if it's genuinely what you believe then, sure, it's "fair."

But it was not necessarily revealing of what you claim.

True. But I'm probably right. I've been closely observing human behavior for many years and my calls are almost always right. You don't have to believe me; people usually don't until they've been around me enough and been surprised at how accurately I read human beings and situations. I don't always get it right but I usually do, and this one is as obvious to me as Bush was and Edwards was, and the economic crisis was.

It may be revealing that Obama is irritated that the press can't handle a simple request; it may be revealing of any number of things.

Could be.

But I think not.

Hm, perhaps. I thought posting personal information was verboten, but no mention in the Code. From the point of view of argument, the information is unneeded---especially since it was shown your post didn't prove anything and his claim remains standing.

Ooh!
Posting personal information is verboten?
Here I go, being a rebel:

I have two feet.
One is longer than the other.
I didn't shave this morning.
My age is greater than it used to be.
I don't have a washer and dryer in the house any more.
I'm a registered Libertarian.
I was born at an early age.
Personally, I like to bake quiche.
I really have to pee.

I've been a registered Democrat longer than you've been alive.

I apologize then.. I mistakenly assumed that you were a republican from your postings which have been very Anti-Obama. A few here and there is one thing, it seems to me that you take extreme pleasure at digging up any dirt on him that you can, which does not seem to be very democratic.

Again, I apologize.

No need to apologize, but thanks.

I haven't posted "dirt" about Obama or derogatory stuff about his personal life. I comment on his policies, the public man, his words and actions, and what I believe they reveal about him and what it means to us as a nation.

When Clinton fell short with Don't Ask Don't Tell and DOMA, and when he shook his finger at us, saying he hadn't had sexual relations with that woman, I criticized him because I believed he deserved it. When, during the 2000 campaign, I could tell Bush was lying I said so and when Bush lied to start an unnecessary war I criticized him becauase I believed he deserved it. Ideologically I tend to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. In terms of our elected officials, no matter which party they're in I call it as I see it.

Nick has a certain point about the glad-handling of the press, but from videos I've watched of Obama in other venues, that seems to just be his style.

Further, when you say you're just there to chat and/or say hi, and someone tries to change the agenda, what human wouldn't be irritated? It's as though I started a thread about going out on a whim for fast food, and someone butted in with questions about how I felt about all the pork in Congress.

Yup, it's just you and chance on this Nick. I think your in the wrong here.

But where was Helen Thomas, the only real reporter remaining in the United States?

Unknowingly, because he was much too stupid, Bush kept showering her with honours.

Errr.. maybe she was taking a day off, she IS 88 for crying out loud.(and btw, when there's a warning tag, you tend NOT to post the wiki link, or so I thought)

Yup, it's just you and chance on this Nick. I think your in the wrong here.

From what I've read in this thread, Chance doesn't agree with me about this.

And being the minority opinion does not mean it's wrong.

I was similarly derided as a "six percenter" when I opposed Bush starting a war in Iraq. And we six percenters were right.

proof that some people ................. assume

rather than READ

the mind is a terrible thing to waste

a newbie to the 85 yet it is symptomatic with "ur with us or ur against us" mentality that pervades this place

yep

Care to respond to my post instead of some strawman you are "quoting"? Nothing you said had anything to do with my post. I don't care if people swoon for Obama or not, but they can at least try and be logical and rational about their criticism (see Kulindahr, for instance).

u posted something silly about personal info not being important and fred phelps and "manipulative" - to nick cole

my response is as it was then

to u and many (far too many) who consider nick the "black sheep" of dems

silly boys

We may get tired of Nick's apparent constant negativity, but what he's doing ought to be taught in every civics class in the world: let no action, especially not the slightest failure, of a public official go unexamined.

If I'd been on JUB then, I'd have been with you: Bush was a fool on that one -- no imagination, no creativity, no common sense.
