The war's over. We won. I'm not quite sure why we'd still need a coalition for anything.

Really? When did it end? Because as far as I know, US Service Members are still over there, and we're still taking casualties.

I guess the guys who got hit by that IED last week didn't get the memo.

I don't know why you bother to argue with jackaroe.

This is a post for posterity. JUB's Walter Conkrite announces victory in Iraq.

Congratulations to the USA. Under the leadership of President Obama, the US wins the war in Iraq!

Last I heard we still had around 130,000 troops there. Is that still a pretty accurate number? Not sure if you know off the top of your head or not, but I know you follow the military stuff closer.

I think I heard that number fairly recently too, although I'll admit I don't know the actual number at present.

The war effort is undoubtedly shifting to Afghanistan, but I think people forget too easily that Iraq is still a hostile environment and we still have a good number of US Troops invested there. And while people sit back in their homes and say the war is over, US Troops are out on patrol and getting hit with IEDs and those horrible fire bomb things they like to use over there.

I have my own opinions about both Iraq and Afghanistan, but I'll keep them to myself. All I'm going to say is that we're not done until our people stop getting killed. It may not seem like there's a war in Iraq from the comfort of your living room, but I'd be willing to bet the Troops out on patrol have a different opinion entirely. Please keep them in mind.

I still have friends in the military and frankly they are exhausted mentally and physically from the multiple deployments and length of being out of country, in a hostile zone.

No fun.

There's too many folks in the military in the same position, not to mention what it does to their loved ones, and the added strain it puts on their relationships with spouses, etc., etc., etc.

Its rough, it really is

What exactly did we "win"? To the victor go the spoils is the old saying..... what are our spoils?

Pretty sad that the lefties don't recognize military victory when they see it. Saddam still running Iraq is he? Uhh...no he isn't. In fact he's assumed room temperature at the end of a rope. A government, of the Iraqi people's choosing, is running the country now. Millions are no longer under his oppressive regime. That's a big win no matter how you slice it.

We hear so much about the right hating America, when it's actually the left who roots for us to lose. Stroked out imbeciles like Harry Reid claiming "The war is lost!"

We won. The left rooted for us to fail and we didn't.

Could someone help me out?

I'm rarely around to catch the news anymore.

I remember that they used to show (eulogize) the killed soldiers every night on PBS and maybe other stations. Is that still done?

Now that the US has had a regime change, I'm wondering if the media is still as diligent.

A record number of our armed forces (43) died in Afghanistan last month. Are they being remembered? Is anyone paying attention?

^No you're right. We don't seem to much care anymore now that the Messiah is running the show. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Really? Perhaps you should mention that to the families of Lance Cpl Patrick Adle, age 21, Sgt Alan Sherman, age 36, or Cpl John Todd, age 24, who died last Thursday as a result of hostile action.

Or Sgt Ernest Utt, age 38, who died in rocket fire on Wednesday.

Or Spc Jeremy Heines, age 25, and Lance Cpl. Manuel A. Ceniceros, age 23, who died on Tuesday under enemy attack.

Or Capt. Christopher S. Cash, 36, Spc. Daniel A. Desens, 20, and Staff Sgt. Charles A. Kiser, 37, all who died on Monday under enemy fire.

May their heroic sacrifice never be forgotten.

For a war that's over, perhaps you'd enlighten us all as to what has been won?

You mean this?

On April 9, 2009, the sixth anniversary of Baghdad's fall to coalition forces, tens of thousands of Iraqis thronged Baghdad to mark the sixth anniversary of the city's fall and to demand the immediate departure of coalition forces. The crowds of Iraqis stretched from the giant Sadr City slum in northeast Baghdad to the square around 5 km (3 miles) away, where protesters burned an effigy featuring the face of former U.S. President George W. Bush, who ordered the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, and also the face of Saddam. Shi'ites were brutally persecuted under Saddam's rule.[256] There were also Sunni Muslims in the crowd. Police said many Sunnis, including prominent leaders such as a founding sheikh from the Sons of Iraq, took part.[257]

"I would like to register for history that America should be held accountable for the terrorism in our country," said one demonstrator. "The Americans said they want to spread democracy and freedom, but we have seen neither," he continued. Another protester declared "anyone would reject a situation of occupation upon his land and people".[257] "We demand that President Obama stand with the Iraqi people by ending the occupation to fulfill his promises he made to the world," al-Sadr aide Assad al-Nassiri told the crowd.[258]

No, the left just like to be realistic.

We didn't win in Iraq. All we made were new enemies, installed a weak, most likely corrupt temporary type government to govern people who are only gonna start up a civil war once all of our troops leave.

As no one else has answered your question, yes it is still being done.

"At ‘NewsHour,’ we do the Honor Roll, where we show the photographs and hometowns of service men and women who’ve died in Iraq or Afghanistan. These people are dying in our name. We who write about the military always have to remember that," he said.

Lehrer added that the press should remember that it’s not about them.

"If you want to be a star and go get presidents impeached and county judges indicted or show how tough you are, go into another line of work, please." [Link]

That's one of the things that makes us different than empires like the Romans and the Brits of old. We don't seek spoils. All of you leftists were screaming we went to war to take away Iraqi oil because we are an evil and greedy country. Are you now saying we should take the oil from them after all. Members of the good old democrat party said that the American military men were nothing more than rapists, murderers and this one is my favorite, jack booted thugs. Where is the idiot Murtha's apology for his now unproven attacks on the decency of our solders. Our goal was to eliminate a threat to the free world and that has been accomplished. If you had your way Sadamn Hussein would still be torturing (acid vats, mass graves and rape rooms by the way not water boarding with medical supervision) and poisoning the all the people of Iraq that dared to disagree with him. In this case to the victors and this includes several members of my immediate family go the satisfaction that the Iraqi people can create whatever government they so choose. Prior to the marxist liberal loon we now have for president evil tyrannical dictators knew if we said we were going to do something we did it. Now not so much, with our beloved fuhrer running things in such a way as to destroy all that we once held dear so he can gain ever more power we are in heap big trouble.
