Obama useless without teleprompter

^ It's not worth getting too exercised by some of the blitherings one reads here. While Obama was winning the Presidency, his opponents were also focusing on diverting irrelevancies. Remember the lapel pin controversy, etc., etc. It's a good as they can do.

Exactly! And thank you!

Then there was that whole William Ayers thing that Limbaugh and the rest of the 'pubs tried so desperately to make a go of, but it never worked..

Not in any way shape or form.

George W. Bush should be forced to stand on the sidewalk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue so American citizens can walk by and spit in his face.

Shit, I'm so confused.

What do you stand for?

Anarchy at all costs?

Perhaps I could get behind you on that front.

Shit, I have to go do some reading about you, NickCole.

Might I add to this ridiculous beat-up of a thread that Obama actually speaks very well without a script. Watch any of his major interviews (O'Reilly for example) or his debate appearances, where he's speaking without a prompter. He certainly can be a lucid, intelligent and inspirational speaker WITHOUT a teleprompter.

This whole thread is based on a premise that is false, based on ONE SPEECH where he spoke slowly. The actual evidence overall suggests that he speaks very well in most circumstances.

No, I'm a law and order man.

But I don't like group think.

I come to my own conclusions. I support or oppose ideas and behavior, not party or propaganda. I am not swayed by a "D" or "R" next to somebody's name, what the media tells me I'm supposed to think, or what the popular crowd tells me to do.

You probably won't agree with a lot of what I say, but you won't be bored. And eventually you'll privately think what every intellectually honest person who's ridiculed me over the years comes to think: that asshole NickCole was right! ;)

Predictions don't = conclusions, not the same thing. You speak more about possibilities and future occurences than you do facts and actual events.

Group think?

Nick the candidate you supported for president was way ahead in the polls for a yr (until actual votes were cast) and the media all but declared the nomination hers yet somehow your support for her is a shining example of independent thinking while those who backed a long shot candidate (until actual votes were cast) are somehow guilty of group think.

However much it may appall you you were a vocal part of the "popular crowd" until the primaries began and while I don't know if thats because its what you were told to do nor do you know the basis for those supporting Obama.

But you just mush on blazing your own well trod path.

Being averse to group think doesn't mean my opinion never aligns with popular opinion.

Never being in agreement with popular opinion would indicate disagreement simply for the sake of being contrary.

As for supporting Hillary, the fact that I maintained my support despite the crowd here turning to Obama is evidence of my independent thinking rather than the group think you've tried to twist it into. I supported her when virtually everybody else did and I supported her when virtually nobody here did -- that's what independent thinking looks like. And I don't drink Kool Aid.

The need for a teleprompter makes you wander whether there is someone else (or some group) pulling the strings.

- Who is telling him what to say?

- Why can't he speak for himself?

OK I very rarely come into this forum, and I am Canadian, but I thought i would just explain what a teleprompter is because there seems to be some people who have no idea.

A presenter writes a speech and it is loaded into the teleprompter. The operator of the teleprompter while listening to the presenter give his speech scrolls along with the presenter so he does not loose track. There is no one telling the presenter what to say.

How do I know this? I used to be an audio visual technician and have actually been a teleprompter operator. They are used all the time in the business world at conventions and business meetings. It is quite simply a memory aid so what is the big deal if someone uses them??? If I take Obama's State of the union for example, I do not remember the exact time of his speech but it was over 15 minutes long. I would like to see anyone try deliver a very long speech and try to remember everything.

Wait, are you talking about President Barack Obama or Governor Piyush Jindal?

Elwood

We know what a teleprompter is and how it functions. And yes at times . BUT NOT ALL times is there a need for one.

You are correct with one point about BHO using the teleprompter.....

BHO has the greatest writers that money can buy.

Maybe you know how they work but the person I quoted did not seem too.

Every president has paid writers...including DUHbya.

The difference between BHO and the former resident of the White House is that Obama's writers have the freedom to be polysyllabic when the situation warrants.
In his first term Bush was mostly monosyllabic. The last 3 years of his second term, his working vocabulary devolved into mostly unintelligible grunts and clicks.

See, I knew that's what it always came down to right from jump street with his loudmouthed, dull witted oppononents in the G.O.P...Calling him a terrorist, A muslim..When you really meant Nigger.

Guess what? America know's it too.

Face fact's pal..You got a NIGGER in the WHITE HOUSE..That nigger, is smarter than you, has more education than you,and read more while sitting on the toilet, than you, or any of the people you met last week have in their whole lives..

You people make me wanna dry heave.

...

So you play to racial stereotypes and then call the President a "nigger" and I'm the bad guy? LOL, alright, if that makes you feel better.

Yet again...for...fuck it, I don't know how many times I've said this, I'm so glad to be British. I'm so glad I don't have to put up with these closet nazi sympathisers. Fuck the lot of ye's.

Here is an excerpt from a TIME magazine article about how Obama writes his speeches:

Obama takes an unusually hands-on approach to his speech writing, more so than most politicians. His best writing time comes late at night when he's all alone, scribbling on yellow legal pads. He then logs these thoughts into his laptop, editing as he goes along. This is how he wrote both of his two best selling books—Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope—staying up after Michelle and his two young daughters had long gone to bed, reveling in the late night quiet. For this speech Obama removed himself from the distractions at home and spent many nights in a room in the Park Hyatt Hotel in Chicago. These late-night sessions produced long, meandering texts that were then circulated to a close group of advisers, including Axelrod and Obama's speechwriter Jon Favreau—a 27-year-old wunderkind wordsmith. "When you're working with Senator Obama the main player on a speech is Senator Obama," Axelrod said. "He is the best speechwriter in the group and he knows what he wants to say and he generally says it better than anybody else would."
