Obama wins second term

Obama mentions gays in victory speech.

See if I'd been in here with y'all instead of drinking with my buds while watching the pub spanking, I'd be commenting more on THIS! We have a major party politician who pandered to us faggots, who won the fucking biggest job on the planet.

I don't care what kind of gay you are, you now have someone who stood by you.

The Christian God if he exists could give a fuck about political parties.

It is a phenomenal, unprecedented victory for the gay community. We changed the discourse about gay marriage, not just negating the "the people have always rejected it" argument, but negating it with ALL FOUR STATES; we elected our first LGBT senator, AND the president mentioned us in his acceptance speech.

I predict big positive changes for us in the next four years, and hopefully for all of America.

He still talks pretty.

Now if he'll grow a pair of balls and figure out a way to put the squeeze on the House destructionists, maybe the country can get something done.

I emailed a friend of mine almost the exact same words this afternoon when we'd seen that Obama was back in. Huge relief here.

Now is Obama's chance to put the defining stamp on his Presidency and restore the faith that much of the world had in him back in 2008. How good would it be to see a bit of table thumping and "I am the President and this WILL happen!" in relation to sorting out your deficits, your immigration policy, your tax policy, turning towards the issue of Global warming (anyone remember Hurricane Sandy?) etc etc etc.

What's he got to lose? Surely he's got more to gain and he could go down in history as being more than the first black president.

Now is when he needs to be Reagan to the public and Lyndon Johnson to Congress.

Na. He'll disappear for like two years... until the midterms.

Benvolio said right to me that Romney was going to win in a landslide lmao... I was laughing hard.

He said it a good half dozen times.

So refreshing...

OBAMA WINS!!!!

Hopefully this will be the wake-up call that the Republican Party needs in order to become a credible political force again.

Correction!

Oh! I read "baking protections" as referring to the marijuana legalization in Washington, Colorado, and Massachusetts (for medical purposes), so the "uncorrected" version made sense to me!

Well done Mr Obama, the Democrats and the American people.

Krugman:

Notice too that to the extent that social issues played in this election, they played in favor of Democrats. Gods, guns, and gays didn’t swing voters into supporting corporate interests; instead, human dignity for women swung votes the other way.

A huge night for truth, justice, and the real American way.

I didn't write this, but I felt it should be copypasted on here:

Republicans, you farked up big. You really thought you were still the voice of the people. But now, after failing at another big project -- making Barack Obama a one-term president -- someone has to tell you exactly what remains in store for you. You see, as a political party, your end is near.

You stand for nothing. Your actions to anger your base succeed at providing a counterpoint to the Left. The right makes up shiat to support their anger. The Left has nothing more than to look at your retarded excuses for a voting base and politicians to see what happens if we don't vote. Long story short: you could have gotten your way if you just took the time and basically ran a real campaign instead of insisting on rape and other horrifyingly stupid things to boost your angry fat white guy vote.

But you didn't. And therein lies the problem: you're not a real party anymore. You're a catspaw to the rich and corporate. Your voter base is so reactionary and stupid that they will vote for whatever you convince them is the boogeyman, and never stop. Abortion? Gay Rights? This has sunk your party. You had to make up issues to get the hicks voting that they will never, ever stop voting against, even if you need them to vote for your party to keep your corporate money flowing. This is how you end, GOP: not with an explosion, not with some pre-ordained Armageddon. You end when your Southern Strategy, now in tatters, becomes less and less a force.

You have lost the Hispanic vote, the African-American vote, the woman vote, the youth vote, and most of the 99%'s vote because you simply got lazy. You can't get it back, how can you? No matter what you do, your stupid hick base will keep pulling you back into the hell you created. The big in-fight that the GOP is going to have? Won't save the party. Nothing can save you now.

This is how it's going to go: you're going to keep pushing in tons of money to lose. You're going to have to shove most of that money into a moderate's hands because your base is going to vote for anybody else BUT him (and we can safely say it will be a 'him'). You're going to try to pander to the undecideds while your base screams for whatever racist thing they want you to do to prove that he's a 'real conservative.' And this is going to go on forever and ever. You can't do both, GOP. You cannot obey your rabid base and get moderate votes, and those who would buy that are either not going to bother or simply turn Democratic because it's the rational vote left. McCain proved it. Romney proved it. Whomever you purchase next will prove it as well.

I'd leave you with some advice, but fark it. The world doesn't need a Republican Party. And by 2020, nobody will give a shit.

There's a Conservative (affiliated with the Conservative Party of Canada) whom I have to deal with a few times a week, we're cordial with one another. He proudly boasts the Republican elephant on his laptop cover. When we bumped into each other yesterday he was very smug about election night, telling me that he guaranteed a Romney win. He speculated Romney would win an overwhelming majority in the popular vote while collecting a minimum of 280 electoral college votes. I didn't even argue with him because I was scared Obama wasn't going to pull it off.

I can't wait to see him on Friday.

And there you go. Nail hit on the head.

eh. seems like essentially status quo to me.

we'll go into 2013 with the exact same obstructionist, dysfunctional government we've had for the past 2 years.

but I'll drink a toast to the hopes that they fuck up enough that we see a change in 2014.

I'm not so sure. Some of these characters have to run in 2 yrs, and the President is in for 4 yrs. They will be called out and if they want to keep their job they have to compromise and work with the other party or be in the unemployment line.

By the time I got to the Elections Party LATE last night it wasn't long before President Obama was re-elected...I was sorta worried early on and not sure if the long lines would stop the final votes from ever coming in...The American people got it right Last night. They agreed President Obama was given a Mess when he took office thanks to Dubya and he needed a 2nd term to continue cleaning up as much of Dubya's Mess as he can.....I am so Proud of President Obama and his ENTIRE campaign team..Their national Grass-roots team will go down in History as the greatest grounds-game Strategy Man ever produced in a Modern campaign........They ignited the FIRE in the Base by pulling out all the stops....What a powerful campaign they put on ultimately defining Romney as a Flip-Flopper we can't trust....

Congratulations to my American neighbours for doing the right thing and staying the course with an effective pilot in rough economic seas. We're looking forward to working with you over the next four.

clearly, never in my life ;) I just think the Obama campaign's brought it to a new level.

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-april-5-2012/spamalot

it's a mass spam email, a hair above a chain letter from a friend of a friend of a friend... why pretend it's something else? can't imagine it's fooling anyone.

I agree with you. Only personal letters should be personal. I have been schmoozed by a politician before who greeted me with a blank stare, a quick glance at the nametag slapped on me by the campaign staff, and then "HEY Bankside! Thanks for coming! (handshake handshake)" that seemed so over-animated I wondered how much cocaine must have gone up that nose in one evening.

I was going to copy, and paste, the latest mass email I received from Barack Obama. Butt, seems I already deleted it! #-o

It was sent before his acceptance speech, last night, thanking me for my support, and promising to continue his fights, on all our behaves, which was only made possible by our work, and contributions, to his campaign. :D

Of course it wasn't exactly "personal", even though I was called by name. And though I know it was all automated, I still thought the effort (by staffers), and the "approved" thought behind it, was still pretty "kewl"! ..|

Keep smilin'!! (*8*)
Chaz :luv:
