In the last 8 years I have had 6 encounters with the police. Everytime they were respectful, helpful and honored my rights.

The patriot act has caused me ZERO harm and in fact I believe it has helped give people in security the tools to defend America. In full disclosure I don't plan terrorist attacks on my cell phone or email.

If you think it hasn't caused you harm, you have a very egotistical, narrow view of "harm".

Here's an example of what that monstrosity of a piece of legislation got you:

If you're in a boat on a river, fishing, on a stretch where boats can be used for transporting things, and a senior FBI agent takes a dislike to you, all he has to do is declare that he believed there was reason to suspect you to possibly be engaged in some activity (it doesn't have to be at the time) that could possibly be connected to potential terrorist activity, and he could seize your boat, your gear, any money you had, detain you for 72 hours without allowing you to call a lawyer, and then release you without ever talking to you -- and you wouldn't get your boat, gear, or money back, and would have no channels for protesting or complaining... and if you did, the agent could take that as "evidence" that his suspicions had been correct, and put you on a watch list.

And if that river happened to be on federal land, you could be held as a terrorist suspect indefinitely, and they wouldn't have to say a word to anyone about where you'd gone.

If any private organization had decided it ought to be able to behave the way the government is allowed to under that travesty of a bill, it would be liable to citation for so many "conspiracy to" charges it would make the Bible look like a short, simple book. In the hands of the government, it's evidence of conspiracy to commit tyranny.

The "USA PATRIOT" Act as a tool to defend America is akin to an Uzi as a tool to kill ants on your kitchen table.

All I know, is last week, I had to stand outside in 32 degree weather at 4 am, while Louisiania State Troopers harrassed me for hours. I was pulled over for reasons known only to God and that State Trooper,and I refused to sign a a form consenting to a search..I don't consent to searches.

Because I refused to consent,the cops brought in a dog to sniff the perimeter of my vehicle.If the dog ''alerted'' his dog 'intuition" overuled my right not to consent to a search of my vehicle and trailer..

They said the dog alerted,and they tore the shit out of my truck, and really broke a sweat in the back of my trailer ,moving through bales of hay, in search of the elusive bale of marijuana they were really looking for.

Oh yeah..After wasting 3 hours of my life...They didn't find shit.

And they don't have to compensate you, because they were "just doing their job".
That excuse doesn't cut it in the military any longer, and it shouldn't for cops, either -- if they screw over a citizen, it should come out of their paychecks.

We need websites dedicated to pictures of cops who treat people like crap.

You've got cause and effect backwards there, YN. There are a good number of us who have soured on cops because in spite of our treating them respectfully, cooperating, expecting them to "Serve and protect", we get our trucks, cars, even homes trashed without cause.
Your explanation requires cops to have mental powers, so they can drive by Kenny and note, "Hey, this guy has a bad attitude toward us; let's get him!"

I know very few citizens who have had "good experiences" with cops. In fact, among the WW II veterans still alive in this area, it's unanimous that cops today represent what they went to Europe to fight.

Rural Oregon, urban Oregon, rural Indiana, urban Indiana, urban Florida -- everywhere I've lived, except St. Louis, in fact (while there and working for a church, I wore a clerical collar, and most of the cops were Irish Catholics, so I got treated like royalty).

When traveling, how nice I've been treated has directly correlated with how expensive the vehicle was that I was driving.
