CBS News released their poll results today showing President Obama's approval ratings at 44%. This is his lowest number since taking office. The plummeting numbers appear not to be helped at all by the health-care victory. If this trend continues, Obama could turn out to be one of the all-time most unpopular presidents.

Whereas George W Bush had some of the highest approval ratings of any president early in his first term. And we all saw how that continued.

I tend to lump Democrats and Republicans into the same group when it comes to ups and downs in poll numbers, scandals, internal party problems, voter disapproval, etc. Each party is the same in many regards. Politics go in cycles and neither party is perfect. The pendulum is always swinging.

It's unfortunate that so many naive voters believed that "change" was going to occur after Obama was elected. Politics in DC continue to be focussed on self-interests, lobbyists, broken promises, sweetheart deals, etc. There has been no change in how politics is done in Washington.

It would be great if meaningful legislation is passed between now and November. I'm not convinced that November will be a victory for Republicans. But, I'm not convinced that Democrats can save themselves either.

Well said. I wish we had a viable third party. Meanwhile pick and choose amoung the Dems and Repubs for whoever has a few of your interest and vote for them.. Blind loyality to either party is bad. MHO

I'm not familiar with the U.S. health care reform; so what is it in a nutshell about the reform that's compromising Obama's approval rating?

I approve of Obama. ..|

Quick, check to see if my approval made his rating increase. ;)

there are so many stupid voters in america look at george bush.

if his approval rating is low he must be doing something right or people are just more interested in listening to GOP lies about how hes a muslim born in indonesia.

By law, Uninsured U.S. citizens must purchase insurance through a private Insurance Company or face fines and penalties.
The ( For Profit) Insurance Companies are about to get 32 million new customers,And the I.R.S. will enforce compliance.
While Pre-existing conditions must be accepted, The Insurance companies do not have to sell you Insurance,And if they do, They can charge what they deem acceptable to cover the disease.
In a nutshell, Too many Loopholes in favor of the Insurance Companies.

Obama never had any GOP support. It's the independents he's losing in droves. All that horseshit about "hope and change", but when it came down to the vote, it was dirty politics and bribes as usual.

And bush's approval rating went down to like 13 percent at one point, Obama is trying. The healthcare reform may not be the best, but atleast it's trying to fix and already broken system

This is exactly what has the majority of American's upset. The health care system was not broken . It was in need of some fine tuning, not a major overhaul.

Oh...isn't that unconstitutional?

Most people think so, That's why the low approval.
The Public Option which is more in line with the Canadian system was dropped at the beginning, Even though the majority of Americans wanted it.
The Democrats blamed the Republicans for losing it, But HCR was passed with no Republican votes.
The Public Option could have been put back in,But that would have destroyed the Insurance Companies.
I guess you can now call us the United States of Aetna.

The biggest problem facing President Obama is the same oen that sunk George Bush at the end -- people's pockets. Bush left the economy in shambles; the public thought electing Obama would instantly turn things around.

The housing bubble (that was not sustainable) will not return. Fortunately, we seem to learn from mistakes but I'm sure the next one is already brewing (remember the dot-com bubble, the savings and loan crisis, etc?) Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck and counted on their property values increasing to support continued borrowing. It is a shock that we are now back at historic levels.

People vote and speak with their pocketbooks. We also have an instant gratification mentality. The next shoe is dropping -- commercial property values -- which will affect cities, schools, and other taxing units.

Obama is also hurt by a totally incompetent Congress. Pelosi and Reid -- how can you blow a super majority and not get things done?

That's just because racists are trying to defame him.
I would blame the unemployment rate first.
Racism plays a small part, But it is an over simplification of the problems we are facing.
If you want to blame color, It is all about the color of money- Green.

not so fast there buster! ;)

the jury is still out

I must have been still drunk on Easter wine! lol! It seems we only learn a new way to repeat a similar outcome that enriches a few at the expense of many!

Um, coercion?

No, it's trying to feed a broken system.

As Enron showed, accountants and their friends can come up with all sorts of ways to manipulate the rules and get rich. Now Americans have no choice but to play, and it's like the Second Law of Thermodynamics for poker players:

You can't win.
You can't break even.
You can't get out of the game.
