Beverly Hills is 20 minutes up the road from me. Believe me when I say that these attendees will have no problem affording it. That is pocket change for them.

Also, I'm sure the dinner will be splendid.

Any chance they'll be serving this?

I actually have more respect for Wealthy Democratic donors since they know full well that their taxes are likely going to go up (if they are ... and likely are in the top 2%), but they are still donating anyway.

Hey maybe it's one of "Oprah's favorite things"...in truth it's simply a fundraiser and nothing new that either side has functions like this. That being said I find it rather interesting funny that Sen Obama and his campaign criticize Sen McCain for being out of touch with the "average Americans"

Those in glass houses shouldn't throw wealthy donors and special interest groups

How exactly does your point show that Obama is "out of touch" with "average Americans"? How many fundraisers like this has he done?

When you were over at Politico getting your link did you happen to notice that McCain raised 6 million yesterday? Nice of him to rip the country off for $84 million in campaign financing while not slowing down his fund raising through the RNC one bit.

I've noticed that, just like all the other candidates, Obama keeps wearing clothes while making speeches.

That's not change!

I've noticed that, just like all the other candidates, Obama is campaigning in cities and towns, rather than big stretches of emptiness.

That's not change!

I've noticed that, just like all the other candidates, Obama gets to each of his campaign stops via bus and plane, rather than riding a Hippity Hop from stop to stop.

That's not change!

I've noticed that, just like all the other candidates, all of Obama's speeches are in English, rather than making his stances known via interpretive dance.

That's not change!

I've noticed that, just like all the other candidates, he doesn't advocate moving North Dakota down towards Florida, so they can experience a nice climate for awhile.

That's not change!

And yet the sheeple Democrats keep believing this guy. Ah well.

.... and McCain charged $50,000 a ticket for his buffet!! So much for rich Democrats only forking over a paltry twenty eight five! ;)

That says it best^

We heard for weeks about McCain's many houses...

We heard how wealthy Cindy McCain is....

We here how out of touch McCain is about the economy....

And yet...here is Obama, hanging out with Americas elite crowd, where people are paying $28,500 a plate....

While American poor people are losing their houses and jobs....

It don't look right....

It don't feel right....

Maybe,its just bad timing......

Where's he going to get the money from, Vanman, if these people are poor and losing their homes? Do you want them to empty their pockets and fork over some more, while they are kicked to the curb?

Most of Obama's donors are small donors, and that has been covered time and time again. That is his base.

Can the same be said for John McCain?

The reason this sentiment is so widespread is surely due to Phil Gramm's statement that "Americans are a bunch of whiners." It doesn't help when the Republican Party seems to be in denial on the gravity of the situation.

Here we are, on the verge of possible economic collapse, and McCain's ahead in the polls. It utterly bewilders me.

It is bewildering, but it is several factors added together that is causing this to happen:

People are:

1) still skeptical of Obama's experience

2) still disgruntled that Hillary is not the nominee and won't get over it and unite for the greater good ... even after the convention where she and Bill gave awesome speeches urging unity to take place

3) (feminists are) flocking to the McCain/Palin ticket, because nothing else matters to them in the country, other than seeing someone with a vagina in the White House

4) perceiving John McCain as a War Hero, and are letting their Patriotism blind them

5) turned off by Obama's race, as evidenced in prior polls where people admitted that race was important to them in determining their vote. I don't know how big a factor this is, but there at least is some racial element in the very least, present.

6) believing the propaganda that Obama is a Muslim.

In other words, this election is NOT about the Issues for the citizens of this country.

Midnight, this seems to explain it from a theoretical point of view, but for some unexplainable reason, it still fails to satisfy.

I work with a crew of Hillary-supporters, and all of them--myself included--have agreed that despite our reservations about Obama, our economy is in too horrible a shape to not vote for change. Admittedly, a small crew of five or six isn't scientific.

For my own part, Midnight, I think if Obama loses, I'll just give up politics forever. While this admittedly sounds like "sour grapes", in actuality it is the realization that Joe Q. Public is a lost cause.

I'm pondering the notion that blind adherence to religious dogma might very well be the death knell of the US as a world player. Do you agree?

I would concur with that.

I was just looking up some very quick stats on Wiki and it was reported in a 2001 survey that only 15% of the country's population has no religious affiliation, as compared to the United Kingdom which has 44% and Sweden that has 69% with no religious affiliation.

As long as these people are content with their lives and continue to breed and raise their children with the same "values" they were taught ... then I certainly don't see things changing for the better.

Actually my point was that this is nonsense. I just added that I find it funny that Sen Obama is rather critical about Sen McCain being out of touch when he is in the same boat. Both the DNC and the RNC have long been bought out by special interests and corporations.

I say more power to him. Obama that is. I don't think the rich celebs will be griping that the 28,500 is just toooooo much.
I hope he gets more dindins like this.

Gotta raise money somewhere. I don't see a problem with Babs throwing a $28,500/plate fund-raiser last night. Since he's using the money to campaign in Elko and Las Vegas today, I guess it's a pretty good thing, really.
