Obese Dykes

I'll leave it for the lesbians to let me know if they are offended by the word dyke. Some use it, some don't... Same as us with faggot.

Anyway, it could also be sheer numbers. The number of people who are obese is rising. The level of acceptance of lesbians is rising. (increased visibility)

It might not be that most are obese, it could just be that everyone is obese and the lesbians are coming out faster.

Also, I kind of find it funny that this user was reading me the riot act over using the word "midget" but apparently has no problem saying that all lesbians are fat, and ALSO using the word "dyke", which is considered offensive to quite a few people.

I didn't read you anything. Not Bedtime for Bonzo, much less a "riot act". I merely gave you the dictionary link. And obese is a medical term whether you like it or not. Morbid obesity is a serious problem in the USA, and occurring at vastly higher numbers for lesbians. As the journals I posted it's not opinion it's fact.

Morbid obesity comes with very large life risks, for a purely optional lifestyle choice. So why I wonder are such a large percent of lesbians over-represented in such a tragic, life ending lifestyle. Morbid obesity is every bit if not more risky than AIDS on life outcomes.

Hmmm.... Interesting. Thinner lesbians staying in the closet longer. I guess I could buy that.

Not that they are staying in the closet any longer, that there are fewer of them because of the actual rise in obesity across all demographics.

Buuuuuut, if I were to bullshit, I'd say that since they aren't out looking for a judgmental man who wants them thin and trim, barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen making dinner, they have embraced the other end of body shapes as a way to reject the male influence. Or for that matter, also rejecting what mainstream media projects as the ideal, since the type of love they practice also doesn't meet mainstream expectations.

More than likely though, it's because processed food tastes really good. And it's easier to do nothing than it is to exercise. And yes I do know that genetic predisposition does have an effect on weight gain/loss.

I've only known two overweight lesbians my age, and they are pretty big. The rest of 'young' lesbians I've met aren't overweight at all, if anything it's the older ones I've met or seen around.

I don't really think there's any reason behind it, some people are just fat, is it really that big of a deal? Why is it that gay men have to be so obsessed with image?

The lesbians I know are all over the map, weight-wise. Some get no exercise and some are very active. Some smoke like trains but most don't touch tobacco any more than they touch cocks.

He is referring to a legitimate issue that is prevalent in America these days. Unfortunately it is a major cause of death and it is odd that so many lesbians are overweight to the point of obesity. SO yes an odd statistic.

Now the whole fucking map is red but I dont have the graphic... sorry

The idea isn't we need to love everyone for who they are and being obese is okay dokey cuz that is just who you are...... That is an excuse and it is bullshit. Being obese is NOT natural except in VERY FEW cases. It involves eating shit food and doing fuck all for exercise. A personal choice not a body type. I get that it is popular to open your arms wide and make every excuse known to man for other people to harm themselves but that still doesnt make it right.

As far as the use of Dyke?? Until I got involved on these boards I had no fucking clue that gay men were offended by the term faggot. I have heard some horrifying storys of abusive behavior people have endured and it being linked with the word faggot... SO I get that but I still have no issue referring to myself as a faggot. It is just like the pejorative used for african americans. They chose to own it. Now it is their word and not the people who hate. We should do the same. I am a fucking faggot and I am proud of it. To me the same can be said of dyke... I have no idea if lesbians feel that way or have pent up regressed feeling about the words use but I have known many lesbians and they all seemed to use the term in various ways.

As to the OP....

It is an odd thing but weirdly I know probably more Lipstick Lesbians than bull dykes although with the repeal of DADT and the fact that I have been in the navy for the last 21 years ..... well I imagine my ratio is about to change drastically. However coincidentally although i will know many more man-ish lesbians most all will be in excellent shape because they embrace a lifestyle of discipline and self control in the military.

I'll leave it for the lesbians to let me know if they are offended by the word dyke. Some use it, some don't... Same as us with faggot.

I completely agree with you on this. My only point was that I just think we should be careful with the choice of our words. People should always be able to define themselves however they wish. I'll just never like nor accept to be called fag or faggot. Some girl being called a dyke might feel the same way.

After reading the abstract more carefully, I noticed something odd: the single highest demographic for obesity was among lesbians who drank. In most categories, the obesity rate was over 70%.

Is it possible that alcohol abuse is responsible for much of the obesity?

If this is true, then you would wonder why alcohol abuse is so prevalent among the lesbian population. I can posit several theories.

Alcohol abuse has been demonized as a prevalent gay disease and has a very good root reason to be prevalent in the gay community.

Just a Sip? Gay Men and Alcoholism

Alcoholism is the granddaddy of gay health problems. It may have little of the urgency or newsworthiness of crystal meth, say, or HIV, but it remains one of our community’s (and nation’s) most insidious and intractable destroyers. While there’s nothing about homosexuality that predisposes a gay man to alcoholism, the centrality of the gay bar to both coming out and going out has long given liquor a presence in gay society and sex that can’t help but be harmful.

Gay bars can’t turn someone who is not an alcoholic into one. But by dint of being our de facto community centers, gay bars do deliver gay men who are alcoholics over to the clutches of the disease at an earlier age—and with a kind of assembly-line efficiency. Their omnipresent influence and temptations also make recovery from alcoholism more difficult for gay men.

But the news isn't all bad... as society accepts more and more venues open up apparently gay men don't feel forced to gay bars to make friends and lovers in the gay community.

Alcohol consumption in the U.S. has fallen by 20 percent since Fifield did her dirty work, and there is some evidence to believe that the decline among gay men has been even sharper, starting most dramatically in the mid-‘80s, when widescale efforts to limit HIV transmission encouraged a clean-up-your-act regime across the board. The falling rates of alcoholism may also be a sign that younger gay men are psychologically healthier than older generations, thanks perhaps to greater social acceptance achieved by their elders’ efforts. Yet despite John Barleycorn’s slight fall out of favor, the rates of alcoholics and alcohol abusers have remained more or less constant

I imagine since lesbians and the accepted practice is almost as unaccepted as being gay then they would have the same base reason cited in the article.

Of course most lesbians I know are often much more likely to be in a long term or long term like relationship. SO maybe the mundane nature of such a thing drives em to drink... works for the straight married guys and gals that way.

In this recent survey and study 48% were obese, and nearly 11% morbidly obese. (obesity being beyond overweight)

http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~cochran/PDF/CorrelatesOverObesityLesBiWomen.pdf

The study measures prevalence of obesity and the correlation with exercise in lesbian/bisexual women. Thus I wouldn't purely say that most lesbians are fat. On the other hand, women who rarely exercise are fat, that I agree.

And IMO, your OP is overall a generalisation and stereotypical.

Hating on fat people is really a gross and immature act, just like hating on skinny people. The "Norm" is a constantly changing revolving thing, and hatred is hatred. Being misinformed and stupid about something does not make it okay for one to judge others based on what they are misinformed about.

Just because your fat means you are an obese lazy slob and should be judged as such because you choose to be that way!

You're gay, it's your choice, you're going to get aids, die alone, and go to hell!

Yeah. People, get over yourselves. If someone is fat, it's there right to be fat if they want. Most americans are poor. The cheapest food is the worst for you. We live in a technical age. It has been shown that for many many people, cravings and seeing and eating something they find delicious gives just as much an endorphine rush and gives as much pleasure as sex. Food is generally easier to get. All these things added up equals a fat world.

Also, lets get something straight. Many places in the world and in the past, being fat was a good, if not great thing and meant alot of wonderful things for your place in society, how you were viewed by others, and your worth. It was a norm of the time. People need to not be so god damned narrow minded.

I certainly have known several very obese lesbians over the years.

It is funny that several of these even referred to themselves as dykes...in fact in Toronto, there was the dyke march, so don't get too politically sensitive.

Some of these women are even more alpha male than half the guys on this forum, and would be very glad to tell you so.

I know of one man hating lesbian, self styled 'dyke', for instance who drives truck down in the US, and trolls gay sites like this one, pretending to be a male and making all kinds of more or less homophobic statements.

She's very conservative and racist and makes up different male personae to inject her reactionary point of view into a variety of forums. But she's incredibly easy to spot, because she really knows nada about being a gay male.

But on the other hand, I know a lot of very thin, and a few voluptuous lesbians as well.

But outside of porn, if I asked most of my straight friends, I think their image of lesbians would be heavy set, plaid wearing, Gertrude Stein types.

I reckon this thread might disentangle itself if it was split between—

— those who want to talk about the original topic
— those who want to talk about their own obesity
— those who just want to show how PC they are by taking offence on behalf of others.

Molten, you strike me as someone way too intelligent to start such a shallow thread.... [-X

"Every lid has a pot" you know.

Let's hope that every "obese dyke" finds their soul mate, and someone to love and cherish them in this bullshit-filled world of ours.

After all, if we don't have each other, WTF makes life worth living ?

I'm quite certain your 29-inch Abercrombie and fitch ass can agree with that.
