Wow at first I was gonna think of something funny, or how could he, but when I read "They said he sat in his own waste and was covered in maggots" it was just too sad.:(
 
....sooo this reminded me exactly of some woman who sat on the toilet for two years until she stuck to it..

....and then i realized that this story was about a guy who sat on a chair for two years, not a toilet.

...so my first question was "Where does the poo go?"

what do we learn from this? Apparently it takes two years to stick to something.
 
6 months, haven't moved, no problem.
12 months, covered in my own excrement, no problem.
18 months, covered in my own excrement, can't breathe, no problem.
24 months, covered in my HOLYFUCKINGSHITHELPME.

I still don't understand how stuff like this goes on for this long.

You assume that the person in question is thinking on the same plane of existence as you do...

When you are isolated for that long, you stop thinking "normally" and your frame of reference become distorted...

as an obese man myself, and close to morbidity, this news saddens me enormously...

The man - whose name was not released - lived with a roommate and a girlfriend who prepared him food since he was unable to get up.

What makes it even sadder is that he lived with other people, and they didn't think to get him help before it went this far. One would think that they'd take action the FIRST time he shat in the chair, rather than allowing it to go on for two years right under their noses.

This condition might not have been considered so shameful 100 years ago.

He could have been proudly exhibiting himself at the circus or the carnival sideshows. He would be getting a good income, applause and lots of healthy self-esteem.

Enabling can be mutual, and so can isolation and manipulation. It's probably complicated for anyone in a household like that.

It takes an outside perspective, to bring both compassion and accountability.
 
Wow, this truly is sad but also a bit terrifying to be honest. The fact that this man had not one but two people in the house with him, allowing him to sit in his own waste amongst maggots and who knows what other disgusting creatures for TWO YEARS, apparently without seeking any real help, is upsetting. I guess I could understand the whole isolation concept, the whole "thinking on a different plane of existence" concept" if it applied to one person. To say that it applied to all three of them is a HUGE push. That not a single one of them saw a problem with letting this man literally eat himself to death tells me that there was something more going on here that I'm not sure any of us even wants to know. I can only hope that this man's passing has freed him of his prison. Sad story. :(

My arms and legs fall asleep if I sit in the same position for longer than 15 minutes. How does anyone sit in a chair for 2 years and still had proper circulation of blood to survive?
