Occupy Wall Street

What's happening at UC Davis:

Dear *,

Incredible: nearly 100,000 people -- including you -- signed David Buscho's petition on Change.org calling on UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi to resign for allowing the campus police to attack students with pepper spray who were peacefully protesting tuition hikes. There's more: Every professor in UC Davis' English and Physics Departments has also said Chancellor Katehi should resign -- she can't last long with both students and faculty saying she should leave.

Monday is a big day at UC Davis -- students and professors have called for an all-day protest on campus. Momentum is on their side, but they need you to show Katehi it's time for her to resign.

Can you share David's petition on Facebook and ask your friends to sign? It's critical to show the media that more than 100,000 people want Katehi to go. Click here to share the petition on Facebook.

I have mixed feelings about making the head honcho resign; but definitely the campus chief of police and the out-of-line cop ought to.

But if you read closely, the justification was that it was safer for the police.

That's not supposed to be a consideration. When I was a lifeguard, I didn't choose the course safest for me, I took the course most likely to effect a rescue.
The cops should have the same regard for the protesters -- especially considering that the students are paying to be at the university.

At it doesn't even really consider the substance of constitutional rights; it dismisses them flippantly at the start.

BTW, in line with my point about unexpected moves, the cops could have contacted the university maintenance department and had them throw together a bridge right over the top of the protesters -- if they were trying to block access to the building, it would have circumvented their intent. Then they would have had to decide to sit there in the shade or try to occupy the bridge. If they chose the latter, they'd have to crawl out one at a time.

--> No pepper spray, no prying.

I saw the Iraq vet who sustained the head injury, thanks to Oakland Police, interviewed last night. It made me cry, he still has a very hard time getting words out. It made me so angry that they did that to him after him fighting for this country in Iraq. :grrr:

Oh man, I made my post without watching the video because I had already seen a video of him. Then I wanted to watch it again and , MAN, this is not the one I saw. This was incredible. and yes it made me cry too. I hope he owns the Oakland Police Dept.

If, as it seems, they didn't even follow their own rules, it's a walk-away case.

Yeah, They made rules to how to handle protests from a previous protest. I think it was the man shot at the BART. Anyway, they failed to follow their rules and I hope the cop that shot that canister gets tried for assault.
