so a guy calls today to ask about the Fratmen DVDs.

I happen to be the only one in the office today so I got the call.

After he asks a few vague questions, he then asks me if he can ask a personal question.

I thought I knew where it was going.. when that happens, it's always some guy who wants to have phone sex.

but no.. this guy was 18 and still in high school, didn't now any other gay people and lived in a town of 1,000 people. He just wanted to talk to another gay guy for a while.

Of course, I did my best to help, but aside from gabbing for a couple minutes, I'm not the gay help line. But I remebered my rant a few months back about how we all have to be the role modles that we didn't have.

I had forgotten what it was like to be a scared 18 year old gay guy in grade 12 with just 9 more months to stay and my whole life ahead of me.

he doesn't have a computer or internet access, or I'd have told him to come to JUB.

i think that fact that he was able to talk to another gay guy, the opportunity, was a tremendous help already.

Off Topic: Wait where do you advertise for Fratman TV besides the internet?

We run print ads in magazines and gay publications too.

For instance, we have print ads in JUB mag and have run ads in Cybersocket.

But he found us through a mainstream magazine ad.

Soil, can I kiss you? Like on the cheek? As in the one on your face?

*smooch

You're awesome.

i'm glad you see the light luminum :p

definitly a good way to handle that soil (*8*) definitly suggesting possitive places to go is best... i probably would said find a cyber cafe somewhere near where he could get easy access at least once to find some near by areas that may support....

and jeez soil with how nice you sound on the phone i just may call you lol

oh and

yeah, I told him to go to the library and get acess there.

he was a nice guy.

I swear to God, after reading this, if we were in a place together, I'd silently lead you by the hand into a room and make sweet sweet love to you until I passed out.

Fuck stars in my eyes, I have nebulae.

When somebody says he's 18, is it possible that he's... not quite 18? How you would you go about verifying something like that?

Well, I didn't verify that he was 18.

However, I didn't talk to him about sex and I didnt' talk to him about the Fratmen movies. I mostly talked to him about how being gay in SoCal wasn't a big deal and that if he did move to a big city once he graduatied, he woudln't feel so alone and isolated.

I talked about how he just had to hang on a bit longer and that there really was a place where gay guys can just be gay and be out and nobody judges them for it.

We also talked about Motorcycles, because he rides too.

Pretty cool.

That was smart of him to try that. A small leap of the imagination to think a gay guy might answer the phone at Fratmen, but not a sure thing I would guess. But he pulled it off and talked to a real live gay guy who is very OUT and feels GOOD about his gay life.

I'm glad you were the one who answered the phone.

I had forgotten what it was like to be a scared 18 year old gay guy in grade 12 with just 9 more months to stay and my whole life ahead of me.

I have to say, I laughed SO hard when I read this... for so many reasons (one being that I said this in a post a while back).

But I agree that I'm glad you answered the phone. And I doubt a town of 1000 has a cybercafe. A library even might be a stretch for that size. Just my thoughts having driven through towns that size.

I'm not the gay help line.

I think you were for him. Well done.

Good call.

See, this is why I don't get people who dis you.

You do good work, hon.

It wasn't long ago you were introducing me to the reality of gay life...
:)

OH, people dis me because they can't handle the truth.

Or they think I'm a dork.

Either way, I'm really not such bad guy.

i don't think soilwork has to hear again from me how much i like his comments... but for the benefit of others... soilwork will give the truth... its what a lot of people need to hear...
