I went wine tasting with friends again today. Normally I don't try the wines because I don't drink. I just go to spend time with friends. Anyways, I tried a little this time and it was yummy. I don't think that I could drink an entire glass but it was fun to sip a few of them. I love the way it made me feel all warm inside.

One thing that I have noticed every time that I have been wine tasting is that there are always a lot of CUTE gay people that go. When we go, we normally go to the local vineyards in the area in Temecula.

So, how much do you know about wines and how much do you enjoy wines? Do you go to tastings?

I've never particiated in an actual wine tasting, but I would love to go to one. I love wine, and can drink pretty much any kind, however, my preferences lie more towards a slightly sweet, crisp white. I like reds, but nothing too heavy or too dry.

I'm no expert, but there are a couple of wineries from which I drink that I can identify what year is the wine. I'm trying to branch out, but there's so many.

Good wine is one of the life's greatest pleasures.

I love and genuinely appreciate a good one on any ocassion.

Yet, just like with all the good & precious things, you want to watch them carefully. And enjoy them in greatest moderation.

The beauty of your appreciation of wine should never be a very long-winded and invariably boring monologue some people tend to give their guests about 'how and why', plus 'The 10,000 Basic Facts You Must Know About Wine.' Just make an excellent choice and the wine will talk for you.

No I don't like wine.
I don't like the taste...I know it's acquired but I've never been able to acquire it. It probably has something to do with fermenting process that gives it the taste I do not like. Same goes for Beer and Jack Daniel's.

I pretty much feel the same way, but I have to admit, some of the ones that I tasted were wonderful. I think that it is because I have a sweet tooth.

I actually purchased an inexpensive bottle of Callaway Coastal Muscat Canelli (under white wines). I think that I read that 90% of the wine that is consumed in the US comes from California. http://www.callawaywinery.com

There was also some almond champagne at another winery that I really enjoyed and would have bought some if the winery did not have all these big Republican and Bush signs all over their walls.

one of my friends is alwyas trying to get us to go up to Santa Barbara and go to wine tasting tours..

the problem is that if I was to go, I'd have to ride my motorcycle and I woudln't be able to taste any alcohol if I was going to ride... so.. no.

Why not get your friends to chip in for a limo or have another friend do the driving? I like to go to Temecula because it is local and we can stop off at Tom's Farms or go to Glen Ivy and play in the mud. There were literally hundreds of bikers at Tom's Farms this afternoon.

Yeah, you'll find lots of irresponsible Harley Riders who drink a beer and then get on their bikes.

but Harley riders go slow and have death wishes.... go figure.

I'm not sure it would make much sense to rent a limo to drive up to Santa Barbara from LA... an awfully expensive trip, woudlnt' it be?

I didn't like wine at first, but then I was drinking cheapie (<$10) bottles of wine. Wines increase dramatically in quality once you reach the $15/bottle level. I'll tolerate a good white wine, but I much prefer reds. Deep, dark, rich reds. Cabernet Sauvignon, especially. A French Burgundy or Cotes du Rhône is my current fave.

I've got a couple good wine books by Andrea Immer and Jancis Robinson.

I didn't like beer either at first. But after I got a taste of Guinness and some microbrews, I'm finding it a lot more interesting!

I love my vino, I've been collecting and of course drinking wine for year. One of my pride and joys in my home is my wine cellar. I have a huge section of wine from the reigion of Italy my family's from. I also love my California Cabernets.

I'm sure they won't be offering this classes in a typical college. I took Culinary Arts for my minor in college then Hospitality Management as my major.

I seriously hated wines before having these classes. I guess my horizon broaden once I knew what to look for with these wonderful potables.

My ultimate white favorites are Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Leave them nicely chilled then served them with pungent cheese and fruits....talk about having a nice lazy afternoon at the deck...hehehe.

Actually, when I was in a University, I took a wine tasting class as well. I took it to force myself to do something fun that quarter because I was taking 20 other units on top of it and working as well. I was at a University that also had a Hospitality Management school in it. It was fun...but I still never really got into it after that. I probably would have a tough time with the class today because we always tried it with different foods, many were not vegetarian friendly. We ended the class at a really nice French restaurant.

lol...I have not been a vegetarian my entire life. I was not a vegetarian at the time. But I am now.

I'm very fond of red wine, in an uneducated sort of way; I just enjoy drinking it with friends or over a good meal. And I've been to a few wine tastngs and enjoyed them. Trouble is that the wines I've enjoyed most are too expensive for my meagre budget!

Give me a hearty shiraz, and a good steak, and I'm in heaven.

I love a good beer (not American beer - sorry, but all the ones I've ever tried are garbage).

I really enjoy a nice wine.

I don't really drink spirits...except for the occasional Single Malt Scotch (Nectar of the Gods!).

Not to hijack this thread and post off topic question but are you a strict vegetarian? or do you eat, dairy, eggs and fish with your veggies?

Even if you are vegetarian, you can still enjoy some nice glass of wines with your meal. Basically, if your having "meaty" vegan meals such as portabello mushrooms and eggplant, a nice red wine would definitely go well with it. On the other hand, if you're having grilled vegetables especially involving asparagus, zucchinis, squash, and other "sweet" veggies, a white wine would best compliment such meals.

I'm a pretty strict vegetarian in that I will not eat any type of meat, including fish. I'm not a vegan because I do not mind having dairy products in the foods that I eat.

I'm a pretty picky vegetarian. I don't like mushrooms, eggplant, zucchinis, brussel sprouts, or squash. I don't like veggies that have a sour or mushy taste to them.

I realize that there are wines that can go with various meals. It is just that I normally prefer some water or juice. However, dkonfrost told me that I really loosen up after drinking a little.

I enjoy watching my friends drink...as long as they do not passout...then I start to worry about calling ambulances...and just ruins the evening. That has only happened once.

I like wine and drink it regularly but am by no means an expert. We have great wine country up here in Oregon also. Most of the wine growing area is about 20 miles SW of where I live here in Portland Oregon.

Glad to know that Oenophiia is not a disease. lol
