Do you find some people's avatar's offensive? I do.

GOOGLE ANSWERS:

American flag flying upside down. What does that signify?

Technically - It is a call for help...like an SOS or a Mayday.

However, some people in the United States fly their flags that way simply to be disrespectful and offensive. For these people, I hope that there is a special level of Hell.

and for a "foreigner" to do it -is even more offensive -for they have no "ownership"of the colors to begin with -- they did not fight for the right to fly it - they did not bury over 50,000 men with that same flag draped over their coffins - (and that was just ONE war) -

Unless you have offered your life for it, you have no rights to disgrace it and the men and women who have fought for it.

Disgust .....

I havent been offended nearly as much by the avatar as by some of the posters...

I can see the desecration of the flag bothering anyone who has bled for it. Although i have given up on little minds and changing them long ago.

Are you offended by mine as well?

I'm a rebel....I'm going to keep it anyways!

;)

I'm not offended by the upside down flag. He is making a statement...and that is his right.

I don't want to speak for him...just my guess is that it might have something to do with the US not living up to its fundamental rights.

lucky planet got lot space no got smell um YAY!

I don't give shit about someone's avatar unless it's broadcasting hidden terrorism messages in them (which is true at old times).

Some people could be using it foolishly, I don't care. As long as they are not explicitly offensive (like burning Bibles or flags or decapitating people), I'll giggle all the way.

THIS would barely begin to make sense IF he were an AMERICAN - It's funny that foreigners continuously spout off about American's sticking their nose in other countries business - yet it's okay for them to have opinions about the US -where they haven't fought for this country (OR more likely their own either) -
can't vote - and things that go on HERE have NO impact on them -

so - i can "make a statement" by making an avatar that says "kill the fags" and that would be acceptable to you?

and again, just to remind you ----- You're NOT an AMERICAN.

I don't know who is using the flag as an avatar, but it really does not offend me any more than someone wearing the flag all over their clothing. It is tacky but I'm not going to get upset over it.

It would mean more to me if this country would live up to what the US flag symbolizes.

A threat of killing or any other type of violence against people or animals would of course be offensive.

I am an American, but I've never understood the American obsession with the flag.

It is common in Europe during patriotic ceremonies to lay the national flag on the ground as a sign of respect. Yet, doing this in the USA makes people furious.

Flying the flag upside down is disrespectful. Yet, it's patriotic to make clothing out of it, including underwear.

You can't lay it on the ground, but you can stick it between your butt cheeks?

Who made up these stupid rules, and why are they so important to us?

Aw c'mon :-), freefall has just taken a stand against burning the flag. Isn't that evidence enough of his good intentions? Honestly, that's a more reserved stance than many Americans take on the issue.

I think our freedom to speak freely should trump any notions of exalted nationhood: as an example of exalted nationhood.

Oh please, you can apply the condition to my clothes easily.

Mt country's flag is the exact upside-down of Monaco's flag, but people in my country will burn you if you're not a Monaco embassy and you hang it upside-down for:
1). You may be disrespecting Indonesia.
2). You may be a Monaco colonist trying to set foot on my country.
3). You're trying to set two countries into quarreling.

Easily said.

If you want to speak about offensive, then dick pics, fucking pics, and sexual pics are also offensive. But again, we're in a porn forum, so the ethics are pretty much distorted.

Many things can be considered offensive but alas, there are no down-to-earth, clear guidelines in setting what is offensive and what is not.

"Perception is reality"

if I see a guy grabbing a chick's ass in the elevator - I can complain because I find it offensive -- that is- as you say -is "my right".

If You find something offensive --- it is -- nobody need/can/should talk you out of it --
it's how you feel.

in this "all about ME" world - don't tell me that I'm not allowed to be offended because of OTHER PEOPLE's rights -
it's MY reality - not yours -
I wore the uniform, I earned my rights -
I have the right to vote - even tho I don't -
I do not deny my faith - even tho I do not practice it in the prescribed ways.

I do not disrespect people because of their race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation OR national origin

I have integrity - take that to the bank.
that's my preception - my reality.....

^And that's why you have no right to tell people what should be considered offensive or not for them. And neither can you set standards for people to follow or or assume others' thoughts of what's offensive.

So you think someone posting your country's flag upside-down is offensive. That's not wrong. You are free to think whatever you think.

However, you couldn't say other people who is NOT American is NOT offended. That's wrong. That's assuming. You never know what other people think about, or you are a mind reader or a prophet.

Sorry, but I AM taking this seriously.

I find the misuse of the apostrophe offensive. Fix the thread title.

That said, I haven't really come across anyone's avatar that has offended me. I've been PM'd about mine though because someone thought it had something to do with drugs (lol).

I can only hope that someday there will be a government agency to oversee the usage of "proper" avatars. That day can't come soon enough.

The plural of avatar is avatars. Avatar's is the possessive. This is the reverse of Willow Palin's recent use of families (plural) when she should have used family's (possessive).

Since I know you are not directing this toward me, I won't slap you.

But the OP can, if he wants, as far as I care.

Y'all are offended too easily. Someone's different beliefs or practices are not personal affronts aimed at you... remember that your gayness offends a bunch of conservative religious folk. Are they right in being "offended" by you?
