Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

This year there will be 10 nominees which will allow films like "Avatar" which most likely wouldn't of been nominated if the category was still limited to 5.

Best Picture nominee predictions:

"An Education"
"The Hurt Locker"
"Inglourious Basterds"
"Precious"
"A Serious Man"
"Up In The Air"
"Avatar"

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Bullock is a shoe in. She's paid her dues and her time has come. When Hollywood can often be contriversial, she is rarely that.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Sandra Bullock

I've never been a fan. As a matter of fact I haven't seen "The Blind Side' because of that.

If she wins I might check it out on video.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

I am so excited for Meryl...even though Sandra Bullock won the SAG there is still hope for the queen.

I cannot believe Sandra Bullock could ever be considered better than Meryl at anything.

Meryl Streep was Julia Child...it wasnt an imitation in the least she totally embodied Child.

This is Meryls best chance since Bridges of Madison County and i just do not see how Bullock has gone ahead of her.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Where you watch the 2010 Oscars nominations depends on where you live.

In the UK, keep an eye on the main 24-hour news channels - BBC News and Sky News - for coverage.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by actress Anne Hathaway and Academy president Tom Sherak, starts at 1.30pm British time (an insanely early 5.30am in Los Angeles!!).

US-based film fans up that early can watch live streaming of the Oscars nominations from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater at the official site - just click the link below.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

The acting awards are pretty much a lock: Bridges, Bullock, Waltz and Monique.

Avatar will win all the technical awards.

Up will win animated film

The only real suspense is whether the voters will choose "Art", e.g. The Hurt Locker/Bigelow or "Box Office", Avatar/Cameron for Best Picture/Director.

The older voters (who are in the majority) should favor The Hurt Locker (IF they've screened it), and the younger voters, Avatar.

I'd vote for Bigelow over Cameron and The Hurt Locker over Avatar.

I don't think age has anything to do with it.

Avatar is just not worthy of Best Picture. It's basically the Taylor Swift of the Academy Awards.

In a year with only five Best Picture slots the possibilities of a nomination would have been slimmer.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Congrats Meryl on your 16 th nomination (!)

wow 16 noms and only 2 wins whereas Sandra Bullock gets one nomination and so many insiders are saying one is all she will need to win.

This would be such a travesty if they really give the oscar to Bullock over Streep.

At least the losses Meryl had before were to real actresses...serious actresses with the exception of maybe Gwenyth Paltrow and Catherine Zeta-Jones; but even those 2 actresses are better than Bullock.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Yay for Jeremy Renner and District 9. And I'm pleasantly surprised to see Maggie Gyllenhaal for Supporting Actress. Too bad they gave a Best Picture nom to The Blind Side instead of 500 Days of Summer.

This was the first time I've actually been awake to watch the announcements live.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

And to ad insult to injury Sandra Bullock just got a razzie nomination for worst actress for her role in the horrific "comedy" All About Steve.

If only your taste in singers where as good as your taste in actors.:p

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Doesn't it seem that Randy Newman and T Bone Burnett are perennial nominees in this category:

Music (Original Song)

“Almost There” from “The Princess and the Frog” Music and Lyric by Randy Newman
“Down in New Orleans” from “The Princess and the Frog” Music and Lyric by Randy Newman
“Loin de Paname” from “Paris 36” Music by Reinhardt Wagner Lyric by Frank Thomas

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Really disappointed with the exclusion of Anthony Mackie.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

Nice to see Christopher Plummer FINALLY got an Oscar nomination. Too bad the other "Chris" has it locked.

Hope Bridges gets it. He's too underrated. He's the favorite but I'll be darned if Oscars don't screw it and they give it to Clooney.

Would like Meryl to win, but won't be mad if Bullock gets it instead. i'll be happy whatever happens.

I hated Hurt Locker, but movies this year were far from worthy. I've seen 7 of the 10 nominees and the only movie I think is perfect is "Up".

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

It may be good, it may be bad, but it's all art.

Bold words coming from a Yoko Ono fan. : )

Nice to see District 9 get some recognition. And I would really love to see QT/Basterds take home the prize for Original Screenplay.

:rotflmao: I can just see it now Yoko vs Rihanna thread.

Re: Official 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

And I would really love to see QT/Basterds take home the prize for Original Screenplay.

I think that's quite likely to happen.
