Official 85th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) Thread

Re: Oscars coming up: Actors/Actresses you think are horrible

I made a mistake when I said Michelle Pfeiffer...I get her confused with Rene Russo. I was thinking Rene Russo when I said Michelle. I like Michelle...it is Russo who I think is a walking piece of plywood.

Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

Are you watching the Oscars tonight? Where?

Re: Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

I will not be watching. We're going to be hearing about it all day tomorrow, anyway.....

Re: Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

The last movie I watched in a theatre was The Princess Bride. The last time I watched the Oscars was many years before that.

I won't be watching.

Re: Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

We record it and watch it the following night when we can edit out all the boring shit and commercials.

Brings it down to about an hour.

Re: Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

Haven't watched since Joan Rivers left the red carpet. That woman really cracked me up!

Re: Who's watching "The Oscars" tonight? Where?

I only want to watch for the James Bond tribute. Having a few gays over for it but eating dinner atm. Don't care for the red carpet BS.

I'll have the tv with that channel so it will be playing in the backround while I surf my computer for porn and jacking off. *|*

Re: Official 85th Annual Academy Awards Thread

It's sad that they made Meryl wait 30 years to get #3 and Daniel- who only works in Oscar bait movies- won't deign to make money for the industry, is going to get #3 after 5years and only- what, 5 or 6 nominations- doesn't seem right- nor does Jennifer winning- just don't think she's paid her dues- everyone is saying that Riva's performances is a knock out...hope the old Oscar guard pulls her through.

I don't think someone should have to pay their dues before winning an award designated as the best of the year. The best is the best - it's unfortunate that some years have stronger competition than others. But that's the way chips fall. I love Jennifer Lawrence and thought Silver Linings was an excellent film. I was holding out for Jessica Chastain to win, but what can you do?

As for Streep and Day-Lewis, I think both are exceptional and deserving of their three awards. Having said that, the gaps between them shouldn't matter too much. Recognition is recognition. What is egregious are the greats who never won Oscars - Peter O'Toole, Deborah Kerr, Alfred Hitchcock...etc.

As for whether Day-Lewis' films make money - if we're running on box office, Robert Downey Jr, for all the box office he's brought in should have won. And The Avengers, Dark Knight Rises or Skyfall should have scooped all the other awards.

Re: Official 85th Annual Academy Awards Thread

I'm not really sure I see your reasoning. A lot of Oscar-bait films aren't funded by big Hollywood studios. Usually, they are independently funded, do the rounds at various festivals and then get picked up for distribution by major studios if they are well received. If anything, those films serve as a try before you buy for the major Hollywood studios (case in point, last year's major winner The Artist). Having said that, there are exceptions to every rule.

Let's agree to disagree.

(I am more or less happy with this year's winners.)
