i definitely get way too caught up in the BS of this show, but there's a perverse satisfaction in analyzing antm.

actually, i remember from the cycle 10 thread, YeahWhatever totally called the final 4 or 5 eliminations AND Whitney's win. i never officially gave him props for that - but he totally predicted how the last eliminations would go. which, in hindsight, is pretty damn awesome.

this cycle is a bit trickier to predict, though - but, i'm with YeahWhatever. in the words of john mccain, my money's on "That One" (---> points to The Asian).

aww, moe. can't believe you guys are happy to see jocelyn go.

just saw the episode (west coast), and i gotta say - jocelyn was growing on me. plus, i had to give her props for not just trying out for antm 1 billion times, but also for doing the CG commercial (and executing it pretty well) after having vomited big time just before the shoot.

i know she's not model material (nor will she ever be), but she was modest and sweet. and it would've been nice to see her go to europe with the rest of the girl.

plus, i think this is probably the "first time ever in antm history" (you know how tyra loves saying that shit) that there isn't a black girl in the top 6.

that's a shocker and a travesty, imo. but i guess tyra was really going for the surprise factor here.

so, my thoughts on the commericals -

analeigh's was good - i don't know if it was "best ever in antm history," per tyra. it was natural and sweet. but it just didn't wow me all that much. maybe it's because it seemed like every other CG ad out there right now. which is a good thing, since it shows she could be a working professional. but it wasn't anything new or interesting to watch, per se.

I agree with Tyra, Analeigh's CoverGirl take was the best in Top Model history (beating Smell Gross's Secret commercial in Catalan).

totally agree that smellrose's secret commercial from Cycle 7 was one of the greats. but i think it STILL stands as the BEST commercial in the history of antm - just all around charming, nuanced, hints of finesse and natural girliness - and all the more impressive because she had to do it in catalan.

that says alot because mel-stank's bitchiness from that season irked me (but at the same time, was so much fun to watch - and a part of me wishes i could be as girl-bitchy as melrose!).

i thought sheena - as much as i haven't been impressed with some of her previous photos shoots - TOTALLY ROCKED the CG commercial. i agree with the commercial director - she flowed, she moved well, and she had TONS of spunk.

besides, when was the last time you saw a CG ad with an asian girl in it? it's refreshing to see that (sorry to place the race card here).

sheena was the spice of the night for me, and i loved every moment of her commercial.

actually, this past episode had me digging sheena, ironically. the tide turned even for paulina, who also seemed to really enjoy sheena's commercial.

plus, there was a shot of her and elina in the kitchen, the morning after their big blowup, and her hair was up and sheena totally looked modelesque, even beside elina. in fact, sheena looked much taller than elina (anyone know their heights - maybe sheena was just wearing super high heels), and that fleeting glimpse of the model in sheena made me think she could pull off a credible win.

but then i was reminded of her fake tits, and that all went to hell.

oh - but the whole "european" argument? i actually sided with sheena.

i don't like the way sheena or sam responded (they sounded dumb, could've done a better job and been more tactful), but remember C8 natasha? girlfriend was russian/eastern european and she had no problem standing up for herself. she didn't hide meekly behind an excuse that she wasn't allowed to be emotional because she was european. natasha was a fighter.

so i understand the cultural differences, but i agree with sheena on the issue -

we've all got some issues related to our past or heritage that we bring with us, and it's about moving forward, improving, adapting -

elina and marjorie are allowed to feel bad and crappy about how the judges critique them, but after a certain point, you have to move past it and breakthrough those things (a la C9 jenah, crying in front of panel in China) to please ms tyra banks.

if tyra wants you to cry in front of her and you can't, then start poking yourself with pins to get yourself to cry and well up, just to prove to her that you can cry and be genuine.

ironically, marjorie has the opposite problem with TOO MUCH crying and her meekness is getting on my last nerve. her constant crying at the CG commercial - i was like, stop being a pussy! it was bearable at first, but now it's ridiculous. and the "real" fashion world aint going to spoon-feed you like mr jay does.

anyway, interested to see how this whole argument plays out in amsterdam, when the girls are actually IN europe.

God, I do hope there will be more judging tests in future episodes. They're a Top Model staple.

moe- i'm with you on the judging tests - they need to bring that shit back. that was a big part of what i liked about antm (i will never forget smel-rose's interpretation of "box joyfully" during one of the judging tests in C7)...

I lolled when I saw Analeigh nailed the commercial so good. That was almost perfection and can go straight as real CG commercial. Screw editorial, she can be famous doing TV ads.

I love Sheena's spunk too, she's was good.

I didn't think that Elina's commercial was that bad, this whole gotta let go thing is bullshit. They want her to be as bubbly as Sam and Jocelyn and that's just not her. wtf leave her alone.

Sam was like forcing the product into our faces. "Hey if you want to be pretty, slam this make-up in your face." ugh.

Mckey was just bad.

Marjorie, oh I love her to death, great editorial model but commercial...that was so spastic it's hard to watch.

Jocelyn commercial came out as fake and cheezy not good, glad she got the boot.

I agree. I didn't see what was so horrifically bad about Elina's commercial. WTF? Those judges can be on some real BS sometimes.
And Sam's video SUCKED. But I just knew the judges would love it.

Sheen's and Ana's were def the best though.

yeah - gotta say, sheena's made it this far for a reason. technically, with the fake boobies and mediocre photos early on, she should've been sent home week 2. she's around for a reason (but maybe purely entertainment value). so i'd be very surprised if they cut her next week.

also, as much as i hate to do it (on account of the backlash i'll get), let's pull out the race card: sheena's the ONLY minority left in the competition. it'd be shocking (and a FIRST in antm history) if they had an all-white final 5.

at most, sheena might be in the bottom 2 next week, but i don't think she'll get sent home. (at least i hope she won't be - i have alot of sheena-love right now).

i agree with moe on elina - i think she's going to be on the chopping block soon. i'm thinking either she or marjorie will be sent home next week.

as for analeigh - i'm still not totally sold on her because she doesn't look like a model to me. maybe commercial modeling but not couture, fashion-house, runway modeling.

but, of course, that's not what this show is about (anymore), so analeigh could totally be the darkhorse. and tyra might crown her the winner, just to surprise everyone and cater to the seventeen-subscriber fanbase.

analeigh is perfect for CG and seventeen. and i'm sure tyra knows antm needs an everyday-sweet-girl winner, especially after the "forced" winners from C8-10 (latina, tzone, plus-sized).

so we'll see. outside of her kickass CG commercial, analeigh's photos haven't been stunning or head-turning, like - say - lauren brie's or mckey's photos - so it's tough for me to really warm up to her.

analeigh reminds me of C6 joanie, but even C6 joanie took some phenomenal photos (the payless shoes one, the house-wife one, the ventriloquist one).

analeigh's "bitchy-reporter" photo was her best so far, but for me, it wasn't anything totally striking. she just looked like one of the chicks from "The Hills," acting annoyed, bored, and bitchy.

anyway, i know i'm in the minority here for not having tons of analeigh-love. hopefully she'll surprise me with some awesome photo shoots in europe. in the meantime, i'll have to study her old photos and re-evaluate.

can't wait for next week.

actually, just looking back at the photos, i can't help but be reminded of how LAUREN BRIE WAS ROBBED.

she definitely deserved to have gone to the itnernational destination, at least.

and her underwater photo definitely deserved first call-out that week, instead of clark's. that photo of lauren brie really stands out far above the rest of the girls - her arm position, the wrap of her hands. that photo is spellbinding.

as are all of LB's photos (except for the fiercee photo).

i think there might've been some sabotage (just like they did to C3 Ann) with that fiercee photoshoot. tyra probably didn't pick "her best shot..."

And yes dav242, this is the first time in Top Model history that an all white cast of girls make it to the top 5. I think it's great, like I said last week if the photos suck and they have no top model potential, ship their asses back home. If only Tyra would have done this in earlier cycles we wouldn't be exposed to the devastatingly unfair wins that were Suckleisha and Bitchney Anna Nicole. Ty-Ty's tryin' to redeem herself. She knows we are pissed at her for picking those two non-top model cunts back-to-back.

wow, but this is a shocker. i couldn't wait for the episode to air (it's just starting now on the west coast), and i just had to find out who was getting the boot. so i'm really sad to hear they sent sheena home - and just as i was starting to like the ho.

but i guess the fake boobies were her downfall after all.
i'm just more surprised that they didn't keep her longer...

so, now that the asian is gone, i hope mckey wins. but my favorites usually don't win.

so my early prediction: analeigh wins ANTM

analeigh actually represents a previously non-represented demographic: the sweet, girl-next-door, cutesy, seventeen-reading, CG-wearing teen/earlytwentysomething. and an analeigh win would also be a way for tyra to redeem the past two agenda-driven cycles.

Things are getting predictable every episode. I think McKey makes a good runway model. Analeigh sort of looks like a Victoria's Secret model.

well, i think this cycle is definitely less predictable than C9 and C10 - what with the black chicks getting sent home in a row, an all-white top five, no black model overseas, etc.

it's a first on alot of counts for antm. and i'm sure tyra wanted it that way, just to mess with us.

so it's harder to predict where this cycle is going exactly...

and you could make a great argument for each of the remaining girls, EXCEPT for marjorie and elina - those girls are bound to get sent home eventually, if not next.

marjorie's too annoyingly meek, and elina is turning into an elitist, european bitchwad. i mean, even soft-spoken/wallflower mckey commented on how ugly elina is "on the inside."

so that leaves sam, analeigh and mckey - and in my mind, they've got an equal shot.

and if you think about it, a sam or analeigh win would actually represent some underlying agenda:

sam = the short-haired, boy-cut agenda, that lets tyra prove to all those bitches on past antm cycles that a girl with a short short haircut (think C5 "mia farrow from rosemary's baby") can be high fashion and win this damn show.

sam's cons: her walk SUCKS, she has a blah personality, there's nothing about her that's too interesting outside of her haircut.

analeigh = the "girl-next-door can be a model" agenda that lets tyra make up for the past two cycles and also caters to the main demographic of CG, seventeen. not in the history of antm has a "girl next door" won the show. C6 joanie came close, but thankfully, dani took that cycle.

a recap of the past cycle winners:
C1: tomboy (adrienne)
C2: fat girl gone skinny/high fashion (yoanna)
C3: short black bitch who redeems herself and becomes a role model (eva diva)
C4: mixed minority, quiet, edgy type (naima)
C5: hiiiigh fashion coat hanger with a stank personality (nicole)
C6: the perfect ANTM winner (dani)
C7: the blonde bombshell (crazy-dee)

and then we have the purely-agenda drive cycles whose winners can be summed up in one term:
C8: latina
C9: t-zone
C10: plus-sized

thus far, there has never been a sweet, all-american, good-old seventeen-reading, CG-wearing girl who transforms into a "true" model through the show (pffbt!)

so while it's not an "ethnicity" or "race," per se, it's still a demographic-type that has yet to "win" this show. so analeigh would represent that demographic.

analeigh's cons: not much, i guess. she still doesn't look like a model to me, but whatevs.

and as for McKey:

in my mind, mckey represents the high fashion, SUPER TALL, quiet chick with a wonderful spirit who is a REAL model and could totally be working professionally as a model right now.

mckey's cons: quiet throughout, she's a TOMBOY (which is a red flag because tyra already crowned a tomboy - adrienne - in C1, and that relationship went down the toilet)

but a win from mckey would mean that the show is actually doing what it's supposed to do - finding america's next top model.

so a mckey win would be a huge redemption on tyra's part and put this show back on the right track.

maybe tyra realizes we need a break from the agenda-driven wins and finally crown a worthy winner.

i really hope that's the case, but i have my doubts.
a big part of me thinks analeigh takes it.

but - hell - i'm so confused by what's happened this cycle so far that i can't even make a credible prediction. as tyra once eloquently put it (after alaska-girl hannah got eliminated this cycle): "you may think you know america's next top model, but - chiiiiiiile - you actually don't" [snaps fingers...]

Marjorie can pose her ass off! I think she got a better shot in the photoshoot but the Tyra pick a lesser one (which btw can go really BIAS and change the tide of the competition) because she wants Mckey to win something. She embodies high fashion, she reminds me of Fatima and Katarzyna. Very talented, just need to lose her shyness and spastic tendency and she can be supermodel.

Mckey's picture was fucking smoldering hot, totally editorial. Almost every picture week to week is gorgeous.

I didn't think Elina did that bad at the photoshoot. Again the whole control bullshit is the best they can do to try and bring her down. Her stoic stance is her signature!

Analeigh is getting way better. It's kinda scary because I wanted Mckey and Marjorie to battle it out in the end.

Sam bored me to tears. She's really cute and good commercial model but high fashion? I haven't seen a good editorial picture from her. Even in commercial Analeigh would be a better pick.

Poor Sheena. I really enjoyed watching her. She's one of the few entertaining girls in the show but I'm happy that she out because she just wasn't doing good except for the CG commercial.

So I finally caught last weeks episode on line that was pre-empted last week for stupid basketball. My prediction for Top Model obviously went home, which I'm not really all that sad about. So I'm now thinking McKey will win this one.

just in the middle of watching the episode, but wanted to comment - if mckey wins this cycle, that'll make two awesome wins this year (the other being obama's last night)

but i think analeigh is going to make this cycle hard to predict - she could totally take it, especially if the judges are going on about how great her photos are, when in fact they are just OK (see: saleisha and whitney)

i couldn't stop smiling during mckey's photo shoot tonight, though - it was the first time in ANTM, imo, that a girl looked like a REAL MODEL on a REAL fashion shoot - not just some regular gal who auditioned for ANTM who's trying to model.

her proportions are incredible, and the way she was moving impressed the hell out of me. i don't think LB even moved as well as mckey (though, admittedly, LB's past photos have been more arresting and striking, for me, than mckey's have been thus far).

no doubt, mckey is a model, regardless of how this show turns out.

and i think this is probably the first time i've ever said that about any models since this show started. far more high fashion than even C5's blah-annoying nicole

mckey's ready to be signed to an agency.
