Much less-heard early version/demo of Surfer Girl.

I like this a bit better than the main version even.

Never heard that version of Surfer Girl -

They had the lyrics and harmony worked out - but clearly had not done the instrumentation.

Very nice with the echo....

Cool story actually. I love buying CDs but on this occasion I really made a dumb purchase - a CD full of 60s classics by original artists, but re-recorded and always inferior to the main versions :( - they didn't tell me this on the cover of course . This was literally the only thing on it that I've loved, because like you I hadn't heard it prior. Discovering this amazing other version made the purchase worth-it.

I would not go see whatever their incarnation might be nowadays.but, in their day, i knew all their songs & them at least through the Pet Sounds album of 1966

My favourite live performance of theirs EVER that I've seen, and I've seen a lot.

Always fantastic to see Brian when he was still playing the bass and had the beautiful voice....

Then, you have the Brian Wilson Band and "SMiLE"

Just listen to those harmonies ..|

I saw Brian and his band perform this full album live - it was absolutely amazing and one of the things that made it was the fact Brian was having fun.

Plus his band at that point - the Wondermints and the rest of the crew - are one of the best touring bands I have ever seen.

He still plays...in the studio. In photos of his upcoming album in production it showed him playing bass :).

And yeah, the voice. A decade on from that performance, he wouldn't be able to do justice to it which is sad to think. Brian himself survived his smoking and drugs period but his voice sure suffered At least he can still sing OK. This is a nice latter-day performance.

Al Jardine sounds like his young self still - an advertisement for staying away from drugs and stuff :).

Easy---Good Vibrations and God only knows --like them equally.;)

Re: Favorite Beach Boys song?

Kokomo, just love the title.

What a coincidence. I was just listening to this, my favourite Beach Boys tune, about a half hour ago, only to find this thread:

Re: Favorite Beach Boys song?

For strange reasons, not actually answering the question perhaps, I chose "Surfin' Safari". It was the title track and opening track of their first album, and their first hit and put them on the map, and TBH it still holds up well compared to even some of these better tracks in the poll.

Strange choice perhaps (and even I think some of the other songs in the poll are better) but it's a hardcore fan's choice .

Re: Favorite Beach Boys song?

It's personal preference of course, but, just like all of the groups from that era, people chose favourites for different reasons. For instance, I enjoy Sloop John B because it's a tune I can whistle as I walk down the street.
