Oh Canada, Please Take Over This Barbaric Nation They Call The USA

What we're talking about here is the essence of human rights and social responsibility.

Which Canada has demonstrated by enabling health care for every person and gay marriage for those who wish to marry.

Who wouldn't want that?

If we're going to move forward as a nation it will be in a uniquely American way.We don't need to mimic Canada or Europe but follow our own path....independent and always exploring, never content to stay in a comfort zone for very long.

Question answered.

Oh, and brainiac, Canada is not the only country with oils sands. Oh. And who burns all that oil? Canada? Nope. Look to the gas guzzling inefficient neighbours to the south who are addicted to it because the petroleum industry made damned sure that no other alternative energy source was used in cars and invented the rv as a vehicle of choice to get around fuel consumpton standards by classifying them as trucks.

"Ooh, other countries have oil sands, that makes it ok."

My first post in the thread was a bit harsh yes, but after five years of denial I've come to realize that Canada under Harper is becoming a country that wasn't the one I immigrated into. We still have the oil sands, at least on that we have to agree on. Wake up.

When you accuse me of moving my lips when I'm reading, at least I'm doing it while reading Maclean's. I know they're not perfect, but where do you get your information? And at least I don't fucking use ad hominems.

there was a saying a time ago, Ameica, love it or leave it. If you're so unhappy here, you are free to go.

Yes, and people who used it were widely considered to be boorish reactionaries. What's your point?

at the risk of being boorish, the point is very simple. if you are unhappy here, go elsewhere. what's so difficult?

The problem is that, if everyone who was unhappy there were to leave, there would be very few people left in America. Who isn't unhappy with some aspect of your country? Does that mean they should all leave and not, you know, try to change things for the better?

No, it's not "very simple." It's a gross oversimplification.

This report was published two years ago and only just under 11,000 mainly well off leftward oriented Americans actually did so after the 2004 election.Dramatic overstatement by the OP,who I generally respect but cannot agree with his position on this issue.

Canada is fine,I have no problems with our neighbors to the north but each nation is different.America is much more complex and vast.....20 million or so in a comparable geographic area over 300 million here in the US.Good or bad it's going to be more complex and contentious here,we're like two most dissimilar brothers....we rebelled from the British Empire and the Canadians just kind of graduated from it.If we're going to move forward as a nation it will be in a uniquely American way.We don't need to mimic Canada or Europe but follow our own path....independent and always exploring, never content to stay in a comfort zone for very long.

... Don't drink the punch. :p

and the oil sands in Alberta

Hmm, Canada is responsible for 2% of the worlds green house gas emissions and the oilsands of Alberta are responsible for 1/10 of 1% of the worlds green house gases. Please remember this when you gas up your car and especially with the gift of Alberta transfer payments we send your way each year

BTW...glad you chose to better your life here!

^And this is why I reluctantly take the TTC!

If I recall the TTC is benefiting from federal tax dollars - and you know where the majority of those came from

But, good for you for taking transit - so do I

They're actually raising the prices for the TTC. They just also took away tokens after making some downtown entrances token-only. It's fun to blame Harper for cutting shit but I have to read on it first.

But apparently we're still the liberal socialist hipsters to the North, and Americans still envy us. Sadly, it's not 2004 anymore.

And you're also part of a country which is supposed to be like a big family. And, if I recall correctly, families support all members

Alberta bashing is tired

I know, but I'm still disappointed in a lot of things. And like family, when someone does something bad, we're supposed to be there to steer them to the right path.

And I like bashing Alberta but I didn't this time.

Ahahaha @ the idea of unity in Canada. We're practically four different countries.
Yep. We should start acting like it, too. It could actually be very healthy for our economy. Or horribly disastrous. Either way it would be interesting.

Obviously you guys have heard about how the borders should have been drawn vertically instead of horizontally.

Natives: We're really sorry. For this. For everything else.

Yeah, okay. That's called bullshit. I just LOVE when people say if you don't absolutely love where you live that you should go elsewhere. What about liking where you live but understanding there is room for improvement? Not everything is so black and white.
