or her as the case may be.

I was watching an old episode of The Sweeney (70's cop show) earlier this evening and i noticed at least three or four people who must have just been starting out there careers back then or just slumming it a bit, Brian Blessed, Mike Reid and June Brown from Eastenders, i've also noticed a lot of familiar faces in other shows like Minder and The Professionals, are there any shows in America that feature a lot of actors who have went on to much greater success/recognition ?

After a bit of research:

Paul Newman: 10 years of TV guest roles and 1 movie in 54 until he starred in Long Hot Summer in 58.

Robert Redford: he did a number of roles on a large variety TV series in the early 60s, including Dr. Kildare, Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Route 66, Playhouse 90 and many more. I was surprised at how quickly he broke out of these bit player roles (Defenders in 64) to working on "Inside Daisy Clover" in 65, directed by Robert Mulligan (To Kill A Mockingbird) and starring Natalie Wood. He's cast in Butch Cassidy in 68.

Ryan O'Neal: 3 years of guest roles and a regular on a Western until he starred in the Peyton Place TV series, which led to Love Story, What's Up Doc and Barry Lyndon.

Mia Farrow: instant star and celebrity on the Peyton Place series which led to Rosemary's Baby.

Warren Beatty: 3 years of guest roles, then a supporting player on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis for a year, and stardom with Natalie Wood in Splendor in the Grass.

Which brings to mind Robert Wagner, who starts in movies but becomes a bigger and richer star in television with It Takes a Thief and Hart to Hart.

Rawhide, a black and white western that ran on CBS from 1959-1966...

It starred Eric Fleming as Gil Favor. Fleming was a "B List" actor whose cinematic claim to fame was the film "The Queen of Outer Space" (1958) with Zsa Zsa Gabor.

The co-star was a young actor named Clint Eastwood, who played the side-kick role of Rowdy Yates!

I enjoyed watching Rawhide back in the sixties when I was in grammar school. Here's a screenplay I'd like to have seen:

Gil: Rowdy, it's hot and dusty as hell out on the range today. You've been working awfully hard. How about you and I call it a day , you put on those nice little swim togs I gave you for your birthday, and we head on down to that little swimming-hole we passed back yonder and cool off a little ?

Rowdy: Gee, Mr. Favor, you really mean it ? That sounds great. I can't wait.
