At 8am, no less. #-o

That means, factoring in getting ready time and traffic and parking downtown I have to drag my ass out of bed at 5:30am !! :grrr:

Why can't we have court at noon ? A light lunch, a couple of bloody mary's and an afternoon of sweet justice. But, NO !

Goddamnit, I don't want to do this ! The recorded message on the phone tells me to expect to be there until 5pm. NINE fucking hours ???

This blows !

Pray for me.

Anyone else experienced this horror ?

I've been served summons three times, but never chosen. I never made it through the questioning.

I've only been called once, and I was excused because I have no means of getting to the county courthouse. (I live in the southern end of my county, and the courthouse is in the northern end, with no buses connecting the two towns.)

My brother has been called before, but IIRC, he was dismissed pretty early on, so he was only there for a few hours.

Just pray that you don't get stuck on an OJ Simpson-type jury. That'd suck big'uns.

The first (and currently the only) time I was summoned for jury duty I got there about 9AM, waited 'til about noon'ish to be called into a group of 60, filled out a questioner, and was told to report back to the court room at 9AM the next morning.

The next day interview-questioner took up most of the time from 9AM to about 2PM until they finally picked the jury, and lucky me I was one of the twelve jurors.
We started the trial right after being picked, and at 4:30PM we were told we'd resume at 9:30AM the next day.

Last day we got there, waited for an hour, then were finally able to make our verdict at about noon.

All-in-all I got $85 for 3 days of jury duty. (!)

Hope it goes well for ya! (*8*)

I got a letter in the mail in January saying I had to call in every night for the month of February to see if I was needed the next day...that pissed me off. I'd rather be required to be there everyday for a week than lose an entire month...at least it was when the weather was bad, so the chances of an unplanned vacation were small.

Luckily I was never required to show up.

$85 ???!!!!

I'm only getting $15 a day !!! #-o

Oh...This is getting worse already.....

Your employer will (should) make up the difference though, so in the end you are getting your regular wages for sitting all day doing nothing. Here (Maine) they pay $10 a day. Try this for luck though: I was the very last person called to serve from the pool of 300 and to boot I was the foreman. The case was very boring and was about a denied insurance claim...not very sexy at all.

I am going to pretend that I don't speak English. They can't make me go to my jury duty summon.

Hmmm. Should I start with my lecture on why it's so important to do this . . . ? Nah. Wasted effort.

Been called twice. Been chosen twice. Sat on juries twice. One victim was female and 13; the other was male and 10.

Do I think it's important to do? Hell, yes. For those two, I'll put up with the two weeks out of my life and the rough nights' sleep. Mine have gone away, but theirs may never.

btw, the first time, my boss was called the same day, in the same pool. Once I was even in the running, she was home free--can't know any other juror that well.

ned

I got out of it the last time (3 months ago) due to my Mom's recent knee surgery. Waste of my time with some of the people there - cross section of my city and some are not the brightest in the world - three fries short of a "Happy Meal" if you know what I mean!

I got called once and only once, in 1992. I already had a MEGA-trip to California planned at the time, and I went into the office in a panic (or, actually, making sure I didn't hide my issues about the whole thing), and I was excused and therefore allowed to make the trip.

meson I'd be pissed, too, if I was told to simply throw away an entire month. Though, in my case, it was actually worse: I would have had to call in every night, during the weeks [SOMETHING LIKE] two, five and seven weeks from the date I was notified. In other words, two months entirely trashed for any hopes of a long trip.

It would be better if at least the three weeks were consecutive.

I was on jury duty once. Some drunken 23 year old shot his girlfriend's step father. Altho he admitted he did it his lawyer said it was self defense. We found the guy guilty and he served time in jail.

We were paid but I don't remember how much it was. Think it was about $50 a day.

I got called for Jury duty once. spent all day hanging out. Was very boring. I got called late in the afternoon.

The jewish lawyer and black defendant took one look at me, my shaved head and tattoos and sent me home. I assume they thought I was a skinhead nazi.

First time being mistaken for a white supremacist worked for me.

Can I drink a bloody mary with you afterwards? :D
