  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Ok, fellas tell the truth....how many of you still go trick or treating!!!

In many localities it is illegal to go trick or treating past a certain age (12-13 is the usual cut-off age.)

A) There have been reports everywhere about older teen-agers who have been verbally and/or physically abusive to people.

B) The police aren't overly fond of adults roaming around in the dark wearing masks.

Many years ago, when I lived in DC and went to the Halloween parties at the gay clubs, you couldn't put a mask on until you got to the club. The police could stop you, if passengers in a car or people on the street were wearing masks.

i haven't gone trick-or-treating since i was in grade school.

I might this year. Especially sense it seems people are off the streets ridiculously early.

I haven't in over 8 years.

come on derek! let's go! :D

^^You both better check the laws in your locality.

I'm all for that.

Really.

I don't think my friend is having a paty this year, and I'm tired of seeing people leave their lights on till 11pm at least, and kids stopping at 6:30.

Someone's got to get that candy. L, is a fitting person to.

This year it might happen.

woo hoo! i'll put something together...

^^You both better check the laws in your locality.

we'll pass for youngsters.

/glares at those 'you're not that young' gasps

;)

If you call bullshit on every fact you've never heard before, your educational journey must have been a pip.

And I'm not about to waste my time trying to convince you that it's a fact that many communities (including the one I live in) place a cap on the age for trick or treating.

If your's doesn't (and I'll bet you've never checked to see whether your community does or not), then go for it. I do really and sincerely hope you have a good time. No sarcasm. No joke.

That's quite the jump, to a conclusion there...

Then it's IMMENSELY sad that there is a cap. I mean really, there's just something wrong when others can't enjoy somthing, liek Halloween.

No, it doesn't have a cap. Which explains my shock and disbelief that some do.
They DID however want to change the day it was on at one point, and also make it an 'off day' for students, because it was a hassle dealing with people who were sleep deprived and on a sugar rush.

So, I mean it shocks me and I find it incredibly sad, that there's a cap onb who can trick or treat...

Can the parents wear costumes when they take their kids? Or would they be slapped with a fine? If not... I'd launch a suit counter-acting this law for it's "looseless" on certain things.

Seriously I understand some 'kids' are assholes, but police are out quite heavily, and any shit disturbers tend to get caught, fast because there's also a citizen's patrol and one of the TV stations has a patrol out.

I've lived in three different communities in the last 13 years and each of them had caps.

At some point before Halloween there would be a mention on the local news and/or in the newspaper that children had to be under a certain age to go trick or treating, and that they had to be off the street by a certain time.

Partially this was to protect the smaller children, partially it stemmed from older teenagers harassing people, and partially (and I'm not joking) it stemmed from the aversion of the police to masked adults roaming around in the dark, i.e., using Halloween as a cover for criminal activity. (According to a policeman I once knew, it happens.)

I very much doubt an adult parent or guardian would be arrested for wearing a costume, while accompanying minor children. It's mainly groups of older teenagers or adults out on their own that the laws are aimed at, along with the odd criminal.

My town has a downtown parade for kids under 12, where all the merchants hand out candy earlier in the evening. The neighborhoods are free reign, though I'm sure some people would be grumpy about handing out candy to an adult. I trick-or-treated until I was 16, just because I felt like it.
