I have seen a similar one before in my travels ...I think Eastern European is the best guess for the origin. If I see him in the next couple of days I will ask a friend who is a toy dealer from Sweden if he knows anything about it..he might have gone back to Sweden already though.

I like him...I would have bought him too.

I just thought of something...he could be Italian. I saw some modern Italian wood toys recently that were really cool (and quite expensive). I bought one of them and I think I sold it right away (I have an antique store)

My team picked up a "good luck charm" in Hong Kong a few deployments ago that was a battery operated rabbit that waved one hand and the eyes lit up.... I must say the thing creeped me out and I turned it's eyes away from me while on watch....

Thank you. Those ARE cute, but mine somehow seems more impish. Maybe I'm just imbuing him with the attribute.

The overall quality of yours seems to imply a nicer/lost ‘older’ workmanship -- especially with the metal springs in its antennae.

But it's the position of the nose and overall facial expression kinda gives is that impish W. C. Fields/in-a-world-of-its-own sort of look.

I think this is japanese in origin, but popular in Chinese areas too.

It's not a rabbit, it's a cat. It's got its stationary paw on the words Thousand-Myriad Taels (or 10 million 'ounces' of gold). The arm that oscillates is beckoning more to come his way. In effect, this is a wealth beckoning cat.

I'm not usually enamored with cheap toys, but this one just stands apart.

The one in the microwave looks like it has a 'come-hither' look. You could set up a blog of pics with it doing all manner of wierd things to other inanimate objects. The life of a whatsit or something.
