Do it... now....

If you need to take anything else you could send it in the mail to his house.

Can you rent a little truck to bring your things with you?

Do you have a job lined up in Vancouver? If not, can you find one easily? I'm unclear from your OP.

Why will you be stuck for another year if you don't move now? Sorry if you're repeating yourself. I might have missed some of your updating threads.

J. You know the answer to this already. Listen to your inner voice. Do whats best for you.

I'd go, too. ..|

You can ship a couple of boxes on the bus, too, so you can take a few things with.

A thousand bucks isn't a lot to start over with, but it is better than a lot of folks have done.

And remember: a good Houseguest only stays a week or two, and offers to buy some Groceries and the like after a few days. Even if your are um, well.... :sex:

(I read about the broken bed...:D)

Sell/donate the stuff you can't take so it doesn't end up in a landfill. Make some money off it too.

I'm assuming you're a canadian citizen? If not, look up long term stay info.

Give at least 2 weeks notice at work.

If you can't stay on The_Pianist's couch, a hostel or motel might work for a few weeks.

Have an escape plan/stash of cash if things aren't working out.

Good Luck!

If you get a place will you be renting it out during the Olympics? You could probably make some money from that and you sound like you could do with it :)

Just got confirmation from Gery; he's able to put me up for a month or so while I get my feet underneath me.

I can actually do this. I'm so excited. I'm probably not going to be able to sleep tonight! Vancouver, here I come!

After following your trials and tribulations with the family BS, this sounds to me like a really good move.

A couple of words of caution.

**puts on Mom hat**
1. Be very grateful you have a landing pad. Show gratitude. Be polite. Offer to pick up the slack. Clean the cat box without being asked. Run the vacuum. Clean the toilet. Etc. Make supper for all.

2. Make finding gainful employment a priority. Don't fall into the fun trap of hanging out and doing nothing. Your new, full time job is to find income. 40 hours a week is a reasonable goal. Lots of time to have fun outside of that time but don't leave the impression that you are just having too much fun in the City to get your buns in gear and find some additional employment.

3. Keep your host informed of your progress. Information is helpful. No communication = disaster. Don't ruin the friendship.

4. Conserve your limited cash reserves. No spending on anything that not necessary.

**takes off Mom hat**

Now, GO FOR IT, and keep us all posted! ..|

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Take the plunge dear boy.

You'll probably find a freight company which will deliver your belongings to Vancouver for a reasonable price.

Is there a reason why you haven't looked for a job before the move? You talked a lot about being pretty certain you could find one and that you have disability, anyway, but have you actually looked?

If you're going to be moving later, you might as well give yoruself extra time by looking now.

Hon, I think the best thing you can do is to act on this plan now; it appears enough of it is in place, and Gery is gracious enough to host you and help you along.

I know it's what you want, and I feel it will be for the best .

Getting out quick does not mean getting out in a panic. If you can get rid of things you don't need before you go, send them to a good home. Make sure you give proper notice. Be flexible with your end date at work. You want a good reference to help you find work in Vancouver. Don't burn any bridges, even if you have no plans to ever go back that way. Heck you have paid for August rent already and technically they can take you for September as well since it is already August 5.

And smoking is a fucking waste of money for someone with a thousand bucks in the bank. Quit. You can clip a plastic picnic table cloth to your back and run around like superman in his cape if you need to do something crazy, but smoking costs money.

TADA! Now go and have fun in Vancouver.

technically, you don't need to give two weeks notice to anyone for anything.. Companies that may consider hiring your usually do not get any actual "reference" information from former employers they can only verify dates of employment. Most employers (former and otherwise) are reluctant to give out info on a former worker - due to the amount of litigation that goes on everywhere.
They would not give you 2 weeks notice to let you go -- why do you feel obligated to give them ANY NOTICE TO LEAVE ? (tHE ONLY REASON would be if you wanted to keep that door open and go back there someday. - it still wouldn't mean they would give you any "special consideration" -later..

and - my only other thing is this :
"find a job within a month"? you sure about that? - cuz the unemplyemnt rate in Vancouver is up to around 6% and that's 2 percent higher than last year ! Even "do you want fries with that" jobs are few and far between. Outside of Nurses, i don't know of any category of work that has openings waiting to be filled ..
The grass is always greener....... and while i'd be in favor of your move for a whole lot of reasons -- you need to be extremely sure of the 'consequencs" some of which cannot be undone...
hugs,

You get your essentials together and do what you've got to do! Once you start seeing the results of stress on your face, it's time to bow out of whatever situation your in!

PS. Going balls-out is frowned upon when taking the Greyhound...and you don't want another 2-hour delay for the RCMP to show up and deal with everything...

lol

OH....NO

what are you thinking!!?? ..... LEAVE??!!

you have no job waiting ... you'll be imposing on someone's hospitality .... you'll be leaving all that is familiar to you ... and you have no real plan ... you'll leave behind half of your "stuff" ... only to buy more "stuff" which you'll need when you get there ....

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???

OTOH ... it IS a new beginning ... i say fuck all the old "stuff" .... get more new "stuff" ... change where you live and how you do things ...

go for it!! ... good luck!

This is soooo cool! I'm so excited about your upcoming move and want to wish you all the best! Ger sounds like a great guy, and will be able to help you get yourself established in your new surroundings. I so GO FOR IT!!!! (*8*)

I wish you the best as well--(*8*)
