Olanzapine can be used to treat anxiety, so don't get too freaked out. Mental disorders are pretty common, unfortunately they're still taboo.

I wouldn't worry about it. The medication is to his benefit. You might notice he is a little drowsy, or it may not affect him at all. I take meds, but none that you've mentioned. I applaud your housemate for recognizing his problem and getting proper treatment.

Yeah, like eddie says, the guy shows he's wanting to get out of the cycle of depression, and the drugs may help in this case.

Took in a new housemate yesterday. Seems a nice lad, very quiet though, wouldnt say boo to a goose.

Anyway, when helping him with his stuff up the stairs, a bag fell and two packets of drugs fell out. I quickly went down to retrieve them, and, without making it obvious, memorised their names, before handing them to him. Nothing was said.

With the joys Google, i managed to find out what they most common usage is for................

Olanzapine is used to treat Schizophrenia

Citalopram is used to treat OCD.


Just my luck.. i now have an OCD suffering Schizophrenic living with me!!!

Zyprexa can be used to treat bipolar disorder as well according to my epocrates program. Celexa can be used to treat a number, NUMBER of various psychiatric conditions. I can't name the number of medications I have taken for off label uses, and psychiatric drugs have a TON off label uses. Well actually I can name a bunch of the medications I have taken for off label uses (and they were prescribed). Trazodone, Remeron, Seroquel, Aldara, benedryl, and probably some more. Google those and see how messed you think I am and what you think I have.

However, most of those were taken to try to treat a sleeping disorder, and the aldara, which is used to the treat genital warts, was used to treat a wart on my foot. I also take Lexapro for depression. But yeah, if you saw my prescription history with no other knowledge, well I should probably be in a mental institution.

So talk to the guy and then educate yourself (as well as some of the others who obviously don't know a thing about schizophrenia as they are confusing it with D.I.D.).

Maybe just wait to see if he says anything about it. You are intelligent enough to be an observer. You probably have nothing to worry about.

There is a popular drug, Topamax, to treat anxiety, depression and mania that has an excellent track record of curing migraines. It is normally used for bi-polar disorder.
Valproic was developed to treat epilepsy but a dose 50 times larger is a good anti-manic.

I agree with dunno260. A little knowledge is dangerous.

For the record, Citalopram hydrobromide, or Cipramil as I know it, also works wonders at reversing resistance to antimalarials in the test tube. In a live system it is still not properly evaluated. Theoretically, it will work for cytotoxic resistant cancer, too.

Many other psychotropic drugs - several other antidepressants and antipsychotics - and many anthistamines can do the same thing, incidentally.
