If the rum is so heavy that it is difficult to drink neat, it will come into it's own for cooking, adding great depth where you might otherwise use sherry.
To answer the actual question, nobody would buy me liquor, and I'm glad they don't.

I was gifted a bottle of tequila. Something Gold, the good stuff. I gave it away as soon as I could. I can't stand the smell... but that sure was a fun party drinking tequila out of the bottle until my system decided I should be barfing up my toenails. Forty years later and I still remember.

Oh I have a bottle of Goslings Black Seal and I like it just fine. I ordinarily buy Havana Club but tried anything different when Havana Club’s parent conglomerate kept doing business in Russia. Only to find out that it’s all the same cartel anyway. They have since withdrawn or committed to.

The one I’m hating at the moment is a gin I bought for the same reason from Strathcona Spirits. Unfortunately the same hipsters who gave us all those shitty IPAs have now graduated to producing boutique artisanal gins that do aMAZing things with botanicals. I hate it so much. Flames on the side of my face. Last night I googled “is a gin Caesar a thing?” assuming that maybe I could drown out the flavour in celery salt and Clamato and Tabasco and this really peppery pickled carrot I’ve taken to using as garnish instead of the green bean preferred by the aforementioned hipsters who are so over the celery stick.

Anyway, nothing could defeat this shit. Imagine someone walking around in old marathon runners filled with fennel and cilantro, until they stepped in a pile of dog shit that was frightened out of the dog by a passing skunk. Then sieve the gin through that shoe. Eugh.

Cheap vodka. Especially if it comes in a plastic bottle. I think chemicals from the plastic leach into it and turn it into rubbing alcohol.

I don't know about rubbing alcohol. But chemicals leaching from the plastic is something I've wondered about

Then again... actual rubbing alcohol (aka Parts Cleaner) comes in plastic bottles and the bottles don't dissolve or seem to leak at all in my bathroom.

Just don't heat up food in those flimsy plastic trays they sometimes come in, or any plastic for that matter. It's the heat that does it.

I like some of those Green Giant vegetables that come in plastic pouches, but I always slit open the pouches and cook them on the stovetop.

My spirit of choice is gin. There are some pretty awful fruit gins available in some of the bars in Birmingham (Guava and Banana is particularly horrible) but I'll tackle most of them.
