There are a lot of really sick people out there PeTe.....It's unfortunate that they don't issue breeding licenses......

There are many reasons, none of them I find logical.

I remember a while back here in Chicago, a child was found freezing in the garbage on a winter's day.

The couple said they didn't abort/use contraception for religious concerns. But, it seems, murder was O.K. ](*,)

It's unfortunate that they don't issue breeding licenses......

My friends used to say this, and I used to disagree. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to change my mind.

Where's the justice for the small and defenseless of the world.........???

We have children and pets who are abused, dragged behind vehicles, put in freezers to freeze to death or put in boiling hot water to burn the flesh off their little bodies, and on and on and on.......

God, WHY do you allow such people who do this to children the ability to conceive??(*8*) (*8*)

In the past two weeks there have been four cases in Germany where parents beat their little kids to death and again it's looks like the authorities seem to wake up finally. In two cases the abuse was reported to youth care but they simply didn't do anything until it was too late. Now they are debating the cases in the parliament, hopefully bringing more attention to this and forcing the all people to be more alert when there are signs of abuse.

I don't think there are more cases these days, in contrary I would say it's happening less than in the past. But with all the new media and the internet you just hear of more cases and you hear of cases which would never uncovered in the past. And that's a good thing at least.

update* from the Toronto Star.

STAFF REPORTERS

A Toronto woman charged with hiding the bodies of two babies will spend at least the next week in jail — but her lawyer insists the 24-year-old has been set up.

"She absolutely denies ever having a child in Toronto when police allege she committed this crime," defence lawyer Michael Moon said in an interview with the Star yesterday.

During her brief court appearance yesterday, Ivana Levkovic said only her name when appearing before the judge in a College Park courtroom. The tall woman stood with her head down, her long, dark hair covering her face as courtroom artists sketched her.

Levkovic is accused of concealing the bodies of two children. Peel police charged the former exotic dancer in April when the body of a baby girl was found in a Mississauga apartment where she regularly stayed. Because the baby's body had begun to decompose, an autopsy failed to determine cause of death or whether the girl died before or on delivery.

This week, Toronto police charged Levkovic — who has been staying with her parents in their west-Toronto bungalow — on separate allegations that predate the Peel case. It is alleged Levkovic had a baby in 2002 or 2003, put the baby in plastic bags and placed the body in a freezer.

Police further allege she asked a male friend — now dead — to dispose of the body in January 2005. A few days later, the man told 13 Division officers he had dumped the body in the Humber River. Despite an exhaustive search by the police marine unit, the body was never found.

Levkovic's lawyer said the body was never found because the allegations aren't true.

"The only evidence Toronto police have against Ivana comes from a rapist, drug-dealing pimp, who is now dead and has been dead for quite some time," Moon said.

Det. Sgt. Larry Brien, in charge of the Toronto investigation, said the young man who originally reported the alleged crime is now deceased. Foul play is not suspected in his death.

"I will not and cannot comment on his criminal history, or lack thereof," Brien said.

Moon also said police have "deliberately misled" the public into thinking they have suddenly found new evidence against his client. He questions the timing of the arrest, noting allegations relating to the Toronto case were first reported to them almost two years ago.

Brien said they were unable to find Levkovic when they first began to investigate. Her name was put into a computer database alerting officers in the city and elsewhere that she was wanted for questioning in Toronto. When Peel arrested the woman in April, Toronto police were able to investigate further.

"The evidence speaks for itself," said Brien. "We took it to a Crown attorney and we all believe there is sufficient evidence to lay the charge."

Since making bail on the Peel charge, Levkovic has abided by court conditions, including avoiding strip clubs, Moon said.

Police arrested Levkovic on Tuesday at the Coffee Time outlet on Lawrence Ave. W. at Caledonia Rd., where she began work about a week ago.

"Ivana ... has been working as a waitress, she has reconciled with her family and she has been taking counselling," her lawyer said.

A former employer, the manager at a Coffee Time on Caledonia Rd. at Castlefield Ave., said he was shocked by the allegations.

"She worked for me for a few weeks. She seemed nice and normal to me ... The only thing was she didn't show up for work a few times so I had to let her go," said Ashraf Demetri.

At her family's home yesterday a man who answered the door refused to answer questions, asking the media to leave.

Peel police first charged Levkovic April 5 after a superintendent cleaning a vacant Mississauga apartment found the remains of a baby girl in a bag.

Moon said his client, who has never admitted to giving birth in the Mississauga case, is scheduled to go to trial next year.

Court sources said the Toronto allegations were raised during her bail hearing in connection with the Mississauga case but she was still released on her own recognizance under $500 bail, with no deposit.

Crown attorneys in Toronto are expected to argue she should remain in jail pending trial.

Moon said Toronto police have had the additional allegations at least two years but never had enough to arrest her. He believes the only reason she was arrested now is so that information can be used against her as "similar fact" evidence in her Peel trial in Brampton.

Moon said his client had fled to Montreal "because (the now-deceased man) was trying to pimp her out."

Levkovic will return to College Park court next Tuesday for a bail hearing.
