Ominous sign: World sets record ocean temperature

Well I'd be alive and they'd be dead...so I guess I wouldn't feel too stupid. But then again I am an asshole, so put that into the equation

But to make you happy I'll take this opportunity to reach out to all of the IQ deficient along the coasts. Here's my warning...please pass it on...

Hey people, you live near massive bodies of water called oceans. They're deep...and wet. If suddenly a huge wall of water appears and you find yourself underwater, that's a hurricane, they're dangerous...but usually predicted on the moving picture box. If you find yourself similarly underwater but there was no strong winds or accompanying wall of water...you fell off the pier. I hope you can swim. If the ocean rises in increments of inches and centimeters over the course of decades, then I guess I'll come help haul your stupid asses out of the waist deep muck so you do go and die.

You're right, it does feel good to give fair warning to my fellow man.

Hmm you like to enlighten people huh?

... reminds me of someone else from the ancient times... http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3023309&postcount=17 :-$

If it were so obvious that it was the underlying cause of global warming, there would be an overwhelming scientific consensus about it. Conservatives may retreat into a corner and throw up their own little political version of "science," but it isn't going to impress anybody.

Science isn't about consensus. That's not how science works, and you know it. It's either a fact or it isn't. Man made global warming isn't even a theory, as defined by scientific standards. It's a hypothesis and nothing more.

It's political. You are a conservative. If something is widely accepted by the scientific community and refutes what conservatives believe, you will try your darndest to find whatever quack scientists you can to disprove it. If it is widely accepted and goes against what liberals believe, you will poke me in the eye about how this and that theory is widely accepted. You know that much is true and undeniable.

The libs have made this a political issue. Some are arguing that the scientific method of proving things is outdated. They would appear to actually be arguing that we need to be more "flexible" in what we accept as scientific fact. Kind of like what we did during the middle ages. I flatly reject that kind of thinking. I'm fond of facts. Man made global warming isn't anywhere near being proved as a fact. It's currently a hypothesis, which is a step or two above an educated guess.

You elected to engage in character assaination of those with whom you disagree. Not the way you win an argument. Every scientist who disagrees with you isn't a "quack". Some scientists have changed sides on this issue, one way or another. This kind of behavior is a strong indicator that we really don't know what's going on with the climate.

So I'll let the libs stand with the alchemists of the middle ages and of course, the High Priest of Global Warming, Algore. I'll stand on the solid, proven scientific method of proving things to be so, or not. At the end of the day, facts are what really matter.

And for the record, I do support moving away from fossil fuels, but for different reasons. I like technology.

If it were so obvious that it was the underlying cause of global warming, there would be an overwhelming scientific consensus about it. .

1. Nobody said that the warming sun was the underlying cause of anything - just that it is a factor which is being ignored.

2. Science doesn't work by 'consensus.'

"Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus."

Oh I wholeheartedly agree and the problem only gets worse as time goes on. The use of oil as a primary liquid energy source has got to stop before we are crunched by dwindling supplies.

But that doesn't really seem to be your main point in your OP. It's about global warming and the harm we're doing to the environment. But then you switch occasionally and talk about the supply of oil running out. I would think that would be a good thing vis a vis your concern for the environment. Or is it just that the militant environmentalists will use whatever argument necessary to achieve their goals, a la Saul Alinsky?

Africa ain't no hippie commune regarding political stability and violence.

Can you imagine what we could have accomplished by now some 8 years after 9/11, instead of spending $2.5 trillion in the rathole in Iraqmire we spent upgrading our electric grid, green energy, additional nukes, more North American natural gas, high speed trains, etc?

Exporting dollars to one unstable regions vs. another one? Meh. Call me nonplussed. We should keep those dollars here in the USA as much as possible as exporting dollars doesn't help us if we can rely on own people here in the USA.

Wow.... something you said I can actually mostly agree with
