A 1950's film about the "dangers" of homosexuals.

Amazing the BS our Grandparents grew up with...

Still alive today, I suppose.

For goodness sake - I had no idea they ran these sorts of infomercials in the U.S. back then :(

Looks like they were putting us on a par with serial killers #-o

LOL - I wonder what they would have thought of JUB? (*S*)

1950's? "Ralph" was driving a 1960 Ford Galaxy! ..|

And, hey! It was "Jimmy's" own fault for being so "Hawt"!!

O.K.! I know ... :slap: !!

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)
Chaz ;)

(Did that narrator sound like Rod Serling? )

How scary! BTW the car featured is a 1960 Ford and at the end, it is a 1959 Chevrolet pulling into the parking space.

This wasn't an "informercial". It was what has become known as a "mental hygiene" film, meant to be shown at school and/or teenage functions (church groups and the like). It was considered "groundbreaking social engineering", but, as astutely pointed out, the only difference between mental hygiene films and propaganda is that we supposedly agree with the points made in MH films.

As for it "teaching" anything, it's doubtful these things made any impression in a vacuum. I doubt anyone would've been cool with gays except for having seen a film like this. When you look at mental hygiene films that discuss more contrary points of view, you can tell people weren't swayed by their message.

It was still considered a mental illness. Have you ever thought about how lucky we are to be living now? All the thousands of years of secrets, lies and fear, all the gays who still live under those or worse circumstances lead me to sadness for them and gratitude for Stonewall.

1950's?

Heh heh... It's all that baseball he plays when he's not hitchhiking.

The really bizarre thing is that that video was on my YouTube page under, "Recommended for You".

What the hell ?

Joshy, we see all the Liza and Judy clips you watch, so you must be a big old flaming 'Mo. Try this one on for size, ya pole smoker. -Your friends at YouTube.

1950's? Are you sure you didn't mean "parents" instead of "grandparents," Joshy?

:p

Reel 1:
Jimmy was tired from his baseball practice. The nice man gave Jimmy a lift home, and then said, "Why don't we stop my apartment and I'll give you a rub-down? Afterwards, I'll show you my model airplanes. I have a super jumbo plane that I think you'll like. I'll even show you how I move it in and out of the hangar."
(End of Reel 1)

So, where's Reel 2?

:corn: :corn: :corn:

Here's the full version of the movie, almost 10 minutes long.

In a way, it's almost a how-to for where to go to meet "homosexuals."
I wonder how many boys were busy taking notes,
instead of being frightened by the films?

The videos were made by Sid Davis. I found his obituary online. It says he was also an actor and was a stand-in for John Wayne. He also played one of the "homosexuals" in this video. I'm guessing it was the guy on the park bench watching Mike play basketball.

As hilarious as this clip is, unfortunately this is probably where the American prejudice about homosexuals being childmolesters comes from.

Homophobia exists in Europe too, but this particular idea doesn´t exist here to that extent.
