The house is light beige siding, with a lovely hunter green door and brass accents. :luv2:

But the foundation was painted a bright teal blue...

What the fuck?

Why was I not consulted about this?

This is horrible! Just horrible! There goes the neighborhood! :dead:

*squeals with horror*

How inconsiderate! Now you'll have to paint yours purple to compensate.

What did they do, use swimming pool paint?

Maybe for better/added water proofing, or maybe there was a sale?

My neighbour painted his house teal and painted the foundation grey.

I doubt any of my neighbours would ever paint over any sort of masonry.

That seems to be exclusively a city folk's thing.

Its a very stupid trend to "modernize" that mid century brick ranch around where I live. Example:

Now how is this going to look 5, 10, 15 years from now when painted brick becomes passe and out of fashion???? You can't unpaint brick, if you do this, you are committed to it for the life of the house.

I've also noticed that these painted brick houses are usually flip houses here in Nashville. If you aren't careful, flip houses can be way overpriced and you could be stuck in some negative equity when this real estate market crashes in the next few years.

^There's a show on HGTV called Masters of Flip that shoots in Nashville. So far, they painted every brick house they've bought.

^ Like I said, its a stupid trend and a waste of $$$$ IMO. The painted brick is a calling card for this house has been totally gutted and redone. I'm always very suspect of flip houses, as the idea is to make $$$$, ie not fix faulty wiring behind the walls and other stuff you can't see, but to make it look good and make a buck.

I watched that once. I wasn't impressed. Too staged. I can't stand Chip on Fixer Upper, either. He tries to be funny, but he just comes across as looking stupid.

I miss Cody on Texas Flip and Move. The whole show changed when he left. It's so phoney, and the auctions are hilarious.

A pale shade of cabbage is what was called for.

i like the painted houses better than the red brick and I have excellent taste when it comes to decorating. The teal blue foundation is ok too....trust me on this one...

It's actually a 2 story, somewhat contemporary(slant roofed) house, wth a very traditional front porch.Half brick dwelling with the rest of the house done in a beige siding. The front porch posts have beautiful scrolled fretwork. It all works very well together, except the teal blue 3-4 foot foundation walls that look terrible, and draw the eyes attention from the lovely front porch.

I was always told the foundation of a house should be one shade lighter than the house color,or painted white. We do have neighbors with natural foundation colors(cement/ or light bown stucco, and that looks and blends in ok.

You could always arrange a midnight paint party......get 'em drunk and feed them cabbage rolls..them give them a paintbrush....

I thought a ranch had to have a low roof angle. Isn't the house pictured here a bungalow?

And, as for painting brick and having nowhere left to go, that's a bit harsh. The house could be stuccoed, sided, or even faced with brick veneer or stone. And it isn't a lowbrow thing either.

The great houses and castles in the UK have seen such face lifts in the past. I believe Buckingham Palace is a prominent example.
