One Random Fact About You

I bought some happy birthday balloons for my boyfriend his birthday, I decorated my bedroom. There still on the wall after two years.

I love olives and eat them like candy

^ Me, too!

Do you like all kinds? What is your fav? I'm partial to the black ones. ..|

One of our grocery stores has an olive bar, with all sorts of varieties. Kev has trouble keeping me away from there.

I like black olives but my favourite might be green olives stuffed with garlic  or the blue cheese ones  or the ones stuffed with anchovies

I (perhaps oddly) like ordinary green olives. Even though I gather that olive purists shudder at anything but some fancy $$$ olive. Maybe it's partly sentiment--I think green olives were probably a special occasion type thing when I was young... But I don't particularly like the standard, cheap black olives--they have no taste.

I've seen those, too. I haven't gone near one of these olive bars in a long time--too tempting, and too easy to spend a fortune on olives! It's amazing how expensive just a few olives "as a treat" can be!

And olive bars aren't the only kind of bars in stores. It's possible to find a grocery store with a wine bar. (Although I think these might be closed or limited availability right now, due to the pandemic.) Not sure if a wine bar is to reward one for shopping, or a drink to take away some grocery shopping pain. (Maybe blunt the pain of the $$$ prices?)

^^ Right now I realize olives can be an expensive food for a special ocasion in some parts of the world. They are very common in the Mediterranean area and an essential part of our culture

^ What?! I'm thinking of calling the Geek Squad to reprogram your taste buds! :help:

Yes. There are some rather expensive olives out there, and I'm often surprised what some of them are stuffed with, which can be amazing. However, I'm still partial to the ones I was first introduced to as a kid. The little green ones, stuffed with pimentos, in the glass jar, were a real treat. We couldn't afford even those very often.

The super special ones were the little pitted black ones, straight from the can, that Aunt Dorothy would serve at Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Those were the only times I got those.

Funny thing is, you're not the first that I've heard say that black olives have no taste. I can not imagine going through Life not being able to savor those little tongue tingling gems.

Taste and smell are strongly linked. For example, oranges smell just like they taste, and visa versa. If the black olives have been chilled, their taste is definitely fainter. The warmer they are the better. They practically scream at me on a fresh baked pizza.

I have no idea how to describe their taste. The closest I can get is something like slightly salty old leather with a touch of buttered sweet potato. And, no, I've never chowed down on old leather. I do know what it smells like, though. It's kinda like saying that kalamata olives (the dark purple ones) taste a tiny bit like gasoline.

I am great at making plans, and acquiring all that's needed to carry them out. Unfortunately, I'm also great at procrastinating. :slap:

I have stuff that I look at now and wonder, "What the Hell did I get that for?" #-o
