We didn't get to the cabin until about 3 o'clock since there was a lot of traffic and we stopped along the way to stock up on groceries, beer, wine etc. The cabin was just perfect....rustic, yet well equipped. It was nestled in some pine trees on a small hill with a large deck, hot tub too, and a great view of the bay. The main room was a combination of a large open kitchen, dining area and spacious living room with a fireplace. There were two bedrooms. The larger one featured a high, four-poster bed and another fireplace. It was so romantic. What an ideal place for us to spend a week.
"Too bad it's so hot. A fire would be nice", I said.
"Hey, we might get to use that fireplace. It gets pretty cool at night so near the ocean", Duncan responded.
We sat on the deck and enjoyed a Sam Adams while we talked about going to Provincetown in the morning. I've never been there but Duncan had many times and he was full of ideas about what we should do.
"Lets leave right after breakfast and spend the morning walking around the town. There's lots to see....neat shops and great people-watching. We can even take a whale watching trip or visit the lighthouse some day too if you want. After lunch we can spend the rest of the day at the beach", he suggested, an itinerary that sounded damn good to me.
"You lead. I'll follow!" I put my arm over his shoulder and kissed him on the cheek.
Duncan stood up. "Okay, lets go see if we can buy some lobsters for your first night on the Cape."
That evening Duncan played the role of gracious host and master chef. He opened a bottle of white wine and began preparing dinner. I was impressed, although I had to wince when he dropped the still struggling lobsters in the big pot of boiling water. He made a colorful salad and sliced the crusty baguette. It was a marvelous meal.
After dinner it did feel chilly so I pulled on a sweatshirt. Duncan gave me one of those looks as if to say "I told you so". He brought in some wood from the deck and lit a fire. We sat on the couch before the fire as we finished off the bottle of wine. Now this must be what heaven is like, I thought.
Now I know what you readers of this story are thinking. We had passionate sex on the floor before the fire. Right? No...wrong! That night was one of my very best times ever with Duncan and we did not have sex. Yeah, we kissed and snuggled. We talked about our plans for the next day. We both were very, very happy. There was so much more to our relationship than sex, and I savored that fact. We climbed into bed together and fell asleep in each others arms.
