My 14 year old nephew just came out and I am proud of him for it. He seems to have his shit together. Wow, I was 29 before I came out to myself and others.
 
I told my friends at 13 and felt very honest and relieved

I told my parents at 14 and felt confused by their initial response but also relieved. I hate living a lie to anyone. I am me, what you see is what you get.

I told my parents and my Mum just couldn't take in what I was telling her - she wouldn't go near me. She turned to my Dad and asked him "what had they done wrong as parents" - she then asked me if I was the male or female in my relationship - Funny now that I look back at it, it wasn't about me, she was worried what others would think of her. Time has passed and fortunately we are cool now, but if I didn't have the support of my then partner I think I may have been close to cracking up.

It was new years eve. I picked new years eve because it is a date that can be easily remembered, and it also meant that I could start the new year, and a new life at the same time. I had told my mother about 2 months before, but was not sure at the time how my father would react so I dcided to think about it for a few weeks. I was SO nervous that night, I could not even speak, so I wrote a letter instead and gave it to my father. He read it, looked at me and said "I always knew that. I'm going to watch tv now". Well, I was floored, I was so worried about nothing. I almost fainted right there. I was one of the best moments of my life.
