We are currently supporting (propping up) yet another charity auction for one of our favourite causes.

Last year it took us all year to give away the stuff we bought and this year it looks like it will be the same.

Everyone will be getting some interesting gifts...which I love...but it really would be easier to just cut a cheque.

I am surprised though that given the deep pockets of so many of the donors that they aren't just enjoying the game as we are, just running up bids. Including some pretty nice photography from an Oscar winner.

Our niece's husband is getting a beautiful carved bowl, she is getting a beautiful piece of jewelry...there are some vintage Christmas decoration that will get attached to gifts and a really ordinary painting of a bird that I bid on so that the artist feels a little appreciated.

Do you splurge on these on-line auctions? They can be a great way to give one of a kind gifts.

So we got a whole lot of great loot that we can now give away for Christmas...definitely one of a kind items.

Next year, we can start clearing out our shit as well for charity.

I'd be interested in any links or info you can post. I'd rather buy from a charity. Is there a way to search for these? I don't have a charity in mind.

In case anyone is interested -- If Amazon is the best shopping option for a particular item, there's Amazon Smile, which gives percentage of each purchase to the selected charity (0.5%, I think).

Uh uh have only used a credit card online a handful of times If I need to online shop I use Amazon cash codes at Western Union, store gift cards or recently on ebay a visa gift card.

Never have been in a place where I saw one of those type of auctions. A year ago we bought a 90 year old clock from Catawiki an online Auction house The clock is Art deco and keeps time liek a computer and works perfectly! Charity auction would of course be better but over here in Spain we do not have them!

The most recent one we participated in was on https://www.32auctions.com/

I made bids a few times, but things usually go for way more than I would bid.

Also I always feel bad when I see art get no bids.

This.

There was painting that was crap, but I didn't want to discourage the donor so we now own it. I now have to think about what to do with it......

After Pride Night at the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game, which I attended, there was an online auction of both the Penguins and Sabres rainbow practice jerseys and rainbow locker name plaques benefiting LGBT organizations in Pittsburgh and Buffalo. I'd have loved one, but the prices were high even for less-in-demand players like Buffalo's Cody Eakin, which I considered. Marquee players like Sidney Crosby went for much more.
