Lately, the more I read into the Bill of Rights and Constitution (never paid attention in American history class) the more I think we damn near need to crumple 'em up and start over (not literally, its still a piece of history). Those were written mostly with one group in mind, and it ain't homosexuals. There are too many holes and contradictions and concepts that just aren't working. I would understand the opposition if we were pedophiles or murderers asking for rights, but I can hardly understand why word-play needs to be involved just so we can sit in the emergency room with our partners or adopt kids. What we're asking for isn't illegal, not since 2003. I think it shows how faulty our "system" is that a group this large is suffering day by day while change is happening an inch a year. Not complaining so much as frustrated that I know how long this is going to take to be recognized for the inequity that it is.
Oh contraire mi amigo!
It's that same document, and the changing prevailing winds throughout the history of our country that eventually eliminated the 2/3rds of a man, and brought a fullness of equality to both men and woman.
Are we there yet?
Not by a long shot, but the the U.S. Constitution, which to this day is still being fought over by the Federalists and those in favor of "State's Rights" are still arguing their point, but yet that document still survives.
I can't imagine anything that I'd want to replace it with.
I think that you're putting the cart before the horse when you comment and say:

That's my point about this thread.
Words and letters, and acronyms aren't the problem, it's those who are in favor and against the meaning behind them that are.
They don't mean anything.
They just cloud the room with smoke, mirrors, differences, attitudes, prejudices, ill-conceived ideas, bigotries, and any thing else that hamstrings the process, and processes.
The U.S. Constitution, by my understanding of it, has always been an instrument to protect a minority from a majority; so that all might be heard, considered, and represented.
It's what I call the "Jeezus-Krispies" who claim that the founding fathers who wrote that document where "God Fearing Christians," and who claim when the courts (regardless of who appointed the judges) are suddenly "activists" when they uphold the tenants held within that document that are the problem.
Why further define, or redefine ourselves as Americans, when it's fair and equal treatment under the law, and the provisions set fourth though the U.S. Constitution (as written) that we seek?
