Openly Gay Intern Daniel Hernandez Jr. Credited With Saving Life Of Rep. Giffords

^
If you look at his Facebook page, I think that you would find that he does not mind at all that people know that he is openly gay. It is good for society to know that gay people are not the evil that others speak of.

Thank you Daniel for your act of bravery! :=D: :=D: :=D:

Sexuality should not be coming into this discussion at all. As stated above, if a Black Person saved her life, would we do a big feature and angle on this?

A person saved her life. His sexuality has no place in this discussion, regardless if that is what angle he himself wants to push, or not.

if it was a black guy who did the same thing, would it be front page news that a black intern saved her life? or would it just be than an intern saved her life?

If it was in the 1970s or earlier, then yes they would have pointed out he was black. Likewise, they still need to point out someone's gay in 2011. . .which won't go away until the end of THIS century.

For those of you bitching about Daniel's "gay title"...MSNBC interviewed him and no mention of his being gay. ;)

Personally...I have no problem with this thread and Joe.my.god titling the story with the lead in that he's gay. Gay related sites promoting gay news...what's the big deal?

It's not often gays are portrayed in a positive manner...especially in such a huge national news event. As we try and change people's perception of GLBT people...a bit of postive publicity doesn't hurt...even though I do agree that aspect of his personal life is completely unrelated to actions.

^My thoughts exactly. People need to know they interact with gay folks on a daily basis. That's why we come out. Didn't we just repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell?"

This is a different time. When Oliver Sipple saved Gerald Ford's life it ultimately ruined his. No one knew Sipple was gay in his work or family and the release of the information sent his life into a tailspin.

Thank goodness we can rejoice with Hernandez that he is a hero who happens to be gay.

I disagree with a few people here saying GAY was not necessary.

We are in the middle of a civil rights 'WAR'. It is important to let ignorant Americans know that WE can be heroes too.

Just because it's 2011 doesn't mean the lives of gay Americans have improved a lot. Don't forget DADT was only recently gone.

so..........

Openly gay possibly black intern with a latino surname and a biblical first

name may have been instrumental in the salvation of an astronauts polit-

ically involved and party challenged wife s life.

Is that correct now?

odd, nothing in the article indicates he is gay and if he is, what difference does it make considering what he did?:confused:

It is important for society to see positive images of gay people to help counteract the lies and talk about how evil we are from our enemies. It is also a good thing for gay youth to see as well....gay heroes...gay role models.

Re: Daniel Hernandez, gay hero of Tucon, to sit w/ Michele Obama during State Of Union

This is signifigant because in a state like Arizona where senators such as John McCain demonize mexicans and gays as detrimental to our national security/economy/political system, it is great to see him proven wrong on everything, all at once, as in this case.

I am a gay mexican who has served four year in the USMC. Reading about Daniel Hernandez and his act of heroism brings me much pride.

Daniel Hernandez is a great role-model for GLBT youth and all Americans.
