Rice queens, Potatoe queens, Size queens........... I didn't know there were so many gay terms for queens. Either way, I don't like it when gays are called queens unless they're effeminate.
Hmmmn. I doubt the effeminate guys like being called queens.

"Queen" is a holdover from the old days when gay men bonded by using female nicknames and pronouns for each other. "Get her!" "Who do you think you are, Miss Thing?", etc.

All terribly dated and embarrassing today. But like many oppressed groups, we find strength in having fun with derogatory language instead of getting uptight about it. If I can't call one of my gay brothers a drama queen, I might as well go back in the closet.

Just like two black people can call each other "nigger" with humor and affection, but won't allow a white person to use that word. ("Nigga" appears to be a different case -- I haven't figured that one out yet.)

^^Nigger is a word with roots in the Dutch.
White people shouldn't use "nigger" because ya can't change history!
Only some blacks use it in narrowly defined situations.

^^I question the assumption that group-identification is somehow offensive. OK, OK in the way you've experienced it. I am questioning that assumption in pursuit of a better way in, through and around how people behave with each other.

A person's ethnicity; or a person's biological inheritance, should be celebrated for what it is. It is a part of who they are. And they should be free in every sense to celebrate it with those of similar backgrounds. In a way, to do so is to honor their ancestors, the people who, good or bad, and probably a mixture of both, brought about the world of people and institutions that we all live in, in our differing ways.

When people go home they don't all turn into one shade of oatmeal.

I love being pink! I love my Low German, Middle German, Bavarian, Scotch ancestry. All that flows through my veins. If you don't pause occasionally and celebrate that you miss something. Do you miss something if you use it to deny reality?? Bloody well, yes of course!!

Do I make any sense?
Let people deal with and celebrate their whole reality.

Weird, so many pretty words that we can use when referring to other ethnicities and we always end up using the ones that have the potential to hurt people or make them feel bad...I happen to have Indonesian blood..

Hey, and I'm a gado-gado queen! What should we do about it? :sex::sex::sex:

I do not care for the term.

I suspect, in the appropriate setting, it could be considered an endearment, or a private joke.

I don't use words like that. I'm not deeply offended, just don't feel that it's appropriate to give people labels.
