In 1994, Patti LaBelle sang in her show and forced Oprah to sing background for her. And Oprah can actually sing...she sang in a low register but she clearly can sing.

I was scared when i saw the title!!!

But it turned to be OK I guess lol

now its Degeneres turn !!! LOOOL

I'd shit my pants if I had to sing next to Patti. If she belted one of those notes next to me I'd shit and cream my pants at the same time.

They already took it down. Copyright claims are SO STUPID. Unless it's something that is exclusive or currently in the market up for sale, these types of videos only help to promote these stars. It's basically free promotion.

Well, thank god I saved the video, in HQ, in my computer then. I'll upload it tomorrow. ;)

Someone has re-uploaded the video on youtube.

Great 90's clip of Patti singing with Oprah.....Patti will always be the Definition of "Vocal powerhouse"....Patti @ 64 is no longer vocally Dynamic...These days Like Aretha, Patti's relying on her "falsetto" to get her through the high-notes..

I read somewhere Patti had a throat infection in 2004 caused by her diabetes and that's when I started to notice a decrease in her belting capability. Every now and then you'd see her voice recover and still belting like crazy. However, this past year and specially in the last months her voice's been recovering amazingly. Have you seen her recent LaBelle concerts...she was literally belting like she did 15/20 years ago, incredibly powerful, dynamic and effortlessly. Let's hope it continues on this path.

Um, people such as Patti, Aretha, and any other singer uses his or her head voice to belt. Patti's falsetto just began later than the average soprano, but she still used it to achieve her individual high notes. I mean, when she is F6s and G6s in "Somebody Loves You Baby," for example, that's head voice.

Um...there's no G6s or F6's in "Somebody Loves You Baby"...in fact, Patti's highest note is an F6 sung live. And what they use to belt is a combination of chest and head voice, also known as mixed voice...not just head voice. Usually, the chest portion, when belting a note, gives the note more power and thickness while the head register gives the note more range.
And falsetto is a different thing...something Patti began using since 2003/4.

You're right, there's no G6, but there is an F6. In addition, belting can simply mean yelling, in a more musical sense. It is associated with head voice usage, which is a specific type of tone. As far as falsetto, technically, it is produced in the same way in terms of the vocals chords, but the shape of the mouth is different, which gives a different tone.

The last time I saw Patti LIVE was in 2007...She was awesome during her 2hr set...Her voice cracked only once and she kept singing like the Trooper that she is...

2008 through today..We find Patti struggling to hit those notes..It's painful to watch her sing "Over the Rainbow"...She's so use to unleashing that Power just by Blinking a Fake-eyelash..Now she has to settle for what comes out that particular night..

Patti has always been a Supreme Wailer and Shouter but now she's actually Yelling through entire songs...It's not a good sound anymore..Yelling means she's struggling to reach her upper-Register that she use to thrill audiences with...If you read some of her most recent interviews she admits that she can't Hit the notes like she use to..

Well, like Fucker said, she did have issues with Diabetes. In addition, she is simply aging. Unfortunately, no one can stay the same forever.

2008 was hit or miss for her voice. She had incredible performances (for instance, the "If You Don't Know Me By Now" @ Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...that was a performance of the same calibre of her performances during the 80s) and she had not so good performances. Towards the end of the year her voice began to sound better and healthier. And this year, so far, I have no complaints.

Check out these in February, at a LaBelle concert:

It's been quite a while sing I've heard her with this vocal agility and fluidity.
