So, recently I had my first sexual encounter. For a first time, I have no complaints and the person I was with was comfortable to be with and trustworthy (so I believe). The encounter involved me performing oral sex on him. The act was unexpected and brief. It happened very instinctively on both our parts.

However, the morning after I felt some worry. I remembered a small cut on my tongue, which occurred from brushing my teeth before I meet the guy I was with. When I had done this, there was a small amount of blood that I spat out.

I'm worried that that I may have exposed him to blood in my mouth that may not have been noticed during the act.

Should I be concerned? I'm clean as far as I know. I've never participated in anything sexual. I'm just worried, since I don't want to have exposed him to anything. I feel I was a little to careless to not have remembered.

Is it possible that the exposure could be harmful to him if I'm clean?

If you are disease free, of course, there is no danger to him. There would little danger to him from HIV. It is usually said that you incurr some risk to yourself with a cut or sore in your mouth when you give oral as the cut may provide an opening for virus from his cum or pre cum. I am not sure there has ever been a reported case of it happening. How close in time did the bleeding occur? Did he come in you mouth?

Thank you, this gives me some peace of mind. The bleeding occurred a few hours before I performed oral sex on him. I had left to meet him around 11:15 and the sex happened closer to 2 in the morning. He did not come in my mouth. He was careful not to. He was not close to orgasm either. If there was precum it was little to none.

This would be a good time to get an STD screen. That way, you go into your future encounters with the knowledge that you do not have an STD.

It's also a good time to talk to your doctor about immunization for hepatitis and HPV if you weren't given the series of immunizations when you were a child. All gay men should be immunized for hepatitis and all men who are planning to be sexually active should be immunized for HPV.

Yes, I will do this. Prior to my experience the other night, I had considered a screening. Coincidently, I just saw my doctor the other day and he asked if I would like an HIV test. Which I said I had no sexual experience, but I would like to take the test for peace of mind. Thank you, KataBulut 😊

Shadow, let me say this to you and I am not trying to be unkind: I doubt you are ready for sex because of your lack of knowledge about it. Before anyone should have sex, they need to be armed with the facts. Educate yourself before your next experience.

Even in these low risk encounters, we always recommend that you get an STD screen just for you peace of mind.

However, for anyone who is sexually active these days, regular STD testing is part of the deal. Everyone worries about HIV however the most common STDs in gay men (or men who have sex with men) are chlamydia/gonorrhea, syphilis and hepatitis.

Haha, yes I very much agree with you. That night I wasn't expecting to allow myself to take things as far as I did. The experience allowed me to put everything into perspective. I know I need to educate myself more on safe sex, sexual health and hygiene. I appreciate your response, sixthson. Thank you.
