I love the original series!
I have every episode on vhs tapes, but would love it if they came out with the dvd's here in North America. They have them over in the U.K.
My favorite episodes were always the ones with Steve and Jamie teaming up,even with bigfoot.
Also the fembots were a classic and the one with Jamie's double who took her place and the real Jamie was locked up in jail.
One more favorite is the episode where Jamie's mother "comes back".:=D:..|:D

The original Bionic Woman wasn't campy. Lindsay Wagner was way too cool for that. They even had a few episodes where she found out that the bionic parts had originally been tested on a dog, which she eventually adopted, and that wasn't even campy. They gave it depth by explaining in that Max (the dog) had been abused and she had to win Max's friendship.

Now, the Six Million Dollar Man... that got campy. Of course, Lee Majors was married to Farah Fawcett of Charlie's Angels at the time.

I love the original Bionic Woman series. There's a guy that posts whole episodes on Youtube. I've watched probably 5 or 6 entire episodes on there. You kind of have to search hard to find the complete episodes though. Loved all the bionic sounds. They were so cool! Here's a classic clip of when Jamie first encountered the evil "fembots".

And here's another when Jamie has to protect a little girl.

Another one of someone trying to blackmail Jamie by capturing her bionics on tape.

Enjoy.

Andyspete:

Thank you for posting the clips.

The Fembot sequence retains its ability to frighten! However, the special effects really are cheesy by today's standards. ;-)

The last one to get the DVD set is a rotten egg!! ;-)

It is true that by today's standard the "bionics" would be considered extremely cheesy but remember, for the day in which this was current it was considered pretty ground-breaking. It was certainly believable to me when I was a little boy watching these episodes. The fembots used to really scare me. I would love to get all the DVDs and relive the series that I was so fond of as a kid. I remember playing bionic with the kids in the neighborhood. We would make the sounds and do things in slow motion. Was fun then and looking back on it I would imagine pretty hilarious to see us pretending to be bionic.

The popularity of the new Bionic Woman has drawn attention to the original, made in the 70s.

I loved this show. Never missed an episode.

Oddly enough, it seems to have been relatively forgotten in the US, just like the space opera Space: 1999, which is unfortunate--it was really quite an enjoyable series. Some call it campy. It's interesting to note that Bionic Woman has developed quite a cult following in the UK, though relatively forgotten here in the States.

Anyone else amused that the OP mentions that it's "relatively forgtotten" and that it's basis for a current show? How forgotten can it be?

And, yeah, the show was pretty good; unlike the Six Million Dollar Man, it was actually relevant and serious. My one major nitpick with the show was that the main character's name was Jamie; given the difference in genders, I was made horrible fun of because of Ms. .Summers...

Some episodes were great but some were really silly and made little sense. Sorry, but the Jamie in jail episode was stupid. How hard could it be to figure out the double was a fake?

As for it being cheesy? I don't think when it originally aired anyone thought it was cheesy or campy or whatever. And I can't wait till 30 years from now when people start talking about how cheesy and campy the remake is (not to mention the new Battlestar Galactica!)
