This truly bites. :(

I have been watching soaps since 1981 and I have seen a lot of re-casts in those 26 years, most of them quite horrible.

But Sabine Singh who stepped into the Emmy-nominated Rebecca Budig's shoes earlier this year has, in my opinion, been doing one helluva great job! Here's the complete story on Budig's comeback to the show:

All My Children aficionados can look forward to a major treat in the new year. Save the date! Rebecca Budig returns to Pine Valley as Greenlee Smythe on January 16, 2008. (The lovely and talented Sabine Singh--who stepped into Greenlee's high heels last spring--will last air on January 15.) After two years away from AMC's set in New York City, Budig is excited and nervous about returning to her signature soap role. She is moving cross country, since she's been living in Los Angeles with her husband, Bob Guiney of The Bachelor fame. But Budig just couldn't resist the call of popular demand! In this emotional Q&A, the fabulous fan favorite talks to ABC.com about her big homecoming.

Here's that Q&A with www.soapnet.com:

We've missed you! Is there anything you want to tell AMC fans about your return to the show?
I want to say, "Please welcome me back." 'Cause I'm scared as hell that they won't! [Laughs] And I'm really excited to be back. I hope they ask all their friends to watch and get excited about the show again…. I think it's gonna turn a corner.

Certain actors put such an indelible mark on their roles that it's really difficult for anyone else to fill in for them. You're the REAL Greenlee.
Aw, you're so sweet! You make me feel so good because I have this mixed bag of emotions going on right now. Because I love Greenlee, I feel protective of her! [Laughs] In one way, I feel really excited to go back and see what happens with her. In another way, I have a house, a husband, a dog and a life in L.A. But change is really good…. It creates movement. I'm excited.

You can't doubt that the fans want you back.
I know that they've been loyal and really supportive and sweet. When I'm out and I meet people, they say really nice things to me. I'm just really thankful to the fans. Love the daytime fans.

What convinced you that now's the time to come back as Greenlee?
It just sort of worked out, the timing and everything. My life is in L.A. right now, and there's a lot of things that they did to make this easier for me. [ABC Daytime president] Brian Frons knows how to make things look really good!

What's your life been like in the past two years away from Pine Valley?
Well, I just did a CSI. That was pretty cool--I played a stripper! And I did a pilot for Fox [called The Beast] that didn't get picked up. I've been working, but other than that… I got a dog. [Laughs]

What do you think of Sabine Singh's portrayal of Greenlee?
I think she brought in a different perspective on the character. Obviously, I played this character for six years and I have a different take on Greenlee. But I think she did a great job!

Have you caught up on what's happened since the other actress has played Greenlee? She's done some ugly things.
They just sent me a synopsis of all the things that have happened to Greenlee in eight months. I'm only a month into it. I'm like, "Oh my God, so much has happened in one month!" Hopefully, everyone can move past it 'cause I do like her causing problems.

SPOILER ALERT! On the bright side, it will turn out that Greenlee is not responsible for Spike's deafness. At some point, Kendall will tell Greenlee that it's an inherent medical condition.
Oh my God, I'm so relieved to hear that. Otherwise, how do you forgive her?

We've got another spoiler. Your first scene is a party at Fusion, and there's even a "Welcome Home Kendall and Greenlee" banner.
Oh, that's cool! I'm really excited to work with Alicia Minshew (Kendall), Aiden Turner (Aidan), Cameron Mathison (Ryan) and Thorsten Kaye (Zach). I've missed my friends. And I love Greenlee and Kendall together because Alicia and I have so much fun together. I'm really looking forward to that.

stop the presses Killa we actually agree on a recast. i thought Sabine was
slipped almost flawlessly into her role. i'll be sad to see her go--personally Rebecca's giant, alien eyes were kinda creepy...i guess it doesn't really matter though since i haven't watched AMC in months, with no plans to start up again. that is unless they start giving Colin Egglesfield more airtime!!!

i hear the actress who plays "Lily/Ava" is planning on leaving soon too...THERE'S a role that'll be hard to recast if they choose to do so.

Talking about recast one of the best multiple recast is Carly (GH) ..first Tamara Braun which i asked did Sarah Brown loose a little weight them I realized it was a different person and and then JB who did not last long and then...Laura W. who is doing great with the character.

lol...i still don't know WHAT they were thinkin with Jennifer Branson. don't get me wrong--it wasn't her acting skills that bothered me...she just WASN'T Carly. she did do well when Carly was institutionalized though--she kinda just LOOKS crazy.

Well I guess I'm in the minority here but I'm looking forward to having *real* Greenlee back. Try as might the new one comes off as too big a harpie. Sometimes the recasts work fine - for me, in this case, it didnt.

Now - if they can just do something about the writers.

Jennifer Branson was well-liked amongst ABC though. I don't know if you remember or not, but she played that psycho babe Georgie on "One Life To Live" from 1997-98 and left a very good impression on daytime when she was written off the show.

That's probably why they hired her as Carly on "General Hospital" during Carly's nutty period (summer 2005).

she was MADE to play a crazy bitch like Georgie!!! Rachel turning out to be her killer kinda disappointed me though.

So Rebecca didn't make it in L.A. and Bob can't make it as a recording artist either is what this press release is saying.

I used to watch AMC and I recall getting sick and tired of the actress. But I'm not watching anymore so it really doesn't matter.

On a semi-related question, how long until these shows run out of scripts and have to quit filming?

That's pretty fucked up imo, the new Greenlee while at first I didn't like her that much, has really grown on me and I really like her now sucks to see her booted off :(

I'm happy cause that new Greenle was tore up.AMC sucks anyway I never watch unless I have day or off from work sick and it seems like their stuck on the same sorry storyline everytime I watch
