Osama Bin Laden Dead!

I hear fireworks outside. I don't mind them, to me they sound like the heraldry of peace.

Of course, my ears are clogged.

It’s worth remembering that Osama Bin Laden knew perfectly well that his motley band of fanatics was never going to be able to defeat the United States in direct confrontation. He wanted to drag us into an expensive, dispiriting, unpopular, polarizing war that would bleed our treasury and drain our morale.

We gave him two wars.

So though I’m heartened by this news (because seriously, FUCK THAT GUY), I’ll try to keep my thoughts with the families that will never be whole again - be they families of US/Coalition service members, or the families of Iraqis, Afghanis, Pakistanis, and others who were caught in the cruelties of wars that were not of their making.

Joke's on us?
Honestly, this shouldn't be as big of a deal as this is. Terrorism will still live on and the next fearful figure to project our hate on will be introduced. Also, I can't feel physically happy for a death of any human being. I just find it a weird reaction of excitement and joy to the end of someone's life.

I'm pretty sure Osama will go down as the all time best hide and seek player... Good god...

This should pretty much ensure Obama's 2012 re-election.

Are the American people really so stupid that they would reelect this Marxist piece of shit who has destroyed our economy and is working to destroy our culture?

Obama has turned the economy around, not destroyed it.

We are in a much better economic situation than when he took office.

An utterly stupid and uninformed comment.

Well, the economy was turning anyway. He certainly could have done a speedier job of it... I mean he hasn't done terribly, it's probably gone a little faster than it might have, but it's not like any really serious headway has been made.

It's been a slow, but steady movement in the right direction.

The month he took office was the worst of the crisis in terms of jobs.

It was turning around in 2008???

It was just bottoming out. The housing bubble burst reached its very worst in mid-2008 and started to even out, and the economy was bound to rebound. It's just now starting to show signs of revitalization, which is promising but hardly close to being solved completely. The worst that might happen is a repeat of the second crash in the 1930's; we can't cut our efforts to reboot the economy unless we want it to slump again.

My point is this, though; the economic growth that we're seeing right now is the natural progression after a depression; it's possible to speed the process along, which hasn't happened too significantly. Obama HAS done plenty of good things for our economy, but they've been a bit slow. At least he's going in the right direction as it is. Unfortunately, if he DOES get reelected, he's going to have to deal with a MASSIVE deficit which is a culmination of the Bush years and his own.

Or we could just leave it at: he's done/and doing a better job than that insignificant Bush did -__-

I think Obama learned in hard way to become a bitch. He was too people pleaser, if only he could be a bitch a lil bit earlier, he might done better performance today.
My closest encounter with one of Obama's policy is the government cut for education spending. He cuts one of my financial aid loan, that increase my school fee to $100+!! Crazy.

but I won't bitching him. He's doing whatever he must do. :)

Having just gotten out of the public school system, I'm pretty unhappy with the drastic education budget cuts going on. I'm in one of the hardest hit states, and things are getting a little out of control. The high school that my siblings and I attended is looking at class sizes as big as 67 students next year, which is plain ridiculous for a class that isn't intended to be a lecture session.

you ARE aware that the republicans are cutting education, not the president...right?

Working to destroy your what?!!

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm surprised it took this long, though.

I imagine there are a number of people in the Pakistani government/army/intel service who have spent the past few hours busily covering their tracks.

The news this morning says he's been buried at sea. While I understand the reasoning behind that, I also hope there's some evidence which can be publicly presented, however gruesome it may be. I'd hate to see this turn out similar as to what happened with Hitler when the Russians hid his body for decades, keeping their mouths tightly shut, thus engendering all kinds of stories, some fairly improbable, some merely plausible, some seemingly possible. It's quite possible that whoever takes charge of his hideous and murderous organisation has a number of recordings of him on hand, and could parcel them out over years, helping to cast doubt on his demise.

Someone mentioned up-thread that the guys who accomplished this were heroes. While their actions were certainly heroic, I think it could be a grave mistake for them to be named, lest they or more especially members of their families be targeted for retribution by maniacs loyal to the cause.

I'm finding it hard to rejoice over his death. He was a mass murderer and a maniac, plainly and simply, and he's been put down like the mad dog he was. My guess is that his death won't make us any safer, and I very much doubt we will at any time in the future regain the kind of freedom we once had, before he came amongst us with his dreams of carnage. That freedom we've pretty much been giving up by dribs and drabs and degrees to gain ourselves the illusion that we're more safe from him and from others of his ilk because of what we've lost.

If this was a war, who won?

Now these are News.
Bin Laden after the World Trade Center massacre ordered the 4 train bombing in Madrid Spain with 200 killed and thousand injured.

Good for Obama. But I wished Bin Laden would have been caught and judged in America. But this will do finely too, thank you.
