Oscar nominated films you've seen....

Cars
The Devil wears Prada
Monster House
Pirates of the Caribbean 2
Poseidon
Superman Returns

Pathetic! :( I haven't even seen Happy Feet.

Yes they can do that... at least, for Poseidon, the nomination is only for SFX... The Departed is a remake too... a not so good one, imo... and it's nominated for best movie... ewwww...

That's what I was talking about : if they sold you "Pan's Labyrinth" as a fairy tale, maybe it's because thay had not seen the movie yet...

Anyway... my english is awful, so maybe I misunderstood what you meant... sorry...

Coco...I see what you're saying now but all the reviews that were written were after the critics had viewed the film.
I just think the previews and marketing were VERY misleading!

Good film though!..|

Just saw "Notes On A Scandal" yesterday and it was the first movie I've ever seen starring Judi Dench!!oops!

I used to get tired of every friggin year her being nominated and I said sarcastically that "she could probably take a wizz in a cup and get a nomination" but that was before I saw her performance in this movie !
WOW
She Is the real deal!!!
It was like she crawled into this character Barbara's skin!
Cate was very good also but It was definetely Dame Dench's movie!
Kept me and my husband glued to the screen from beginning to end and slowly built to a tornado of emotions!!!

Of course the rest of the day my husband and I talked in british accents....we're crazy like that!!!
"Allo govna. Would you like a biscuit with your tea?;) :p

I will see whatever I can get my hands on in the major categories. So far I expect that to be Babel and United 93. Hopefully there will be others.

Rented "Half Nelson" last night and we really liked it!!!..|
Ryan Gosling definetely deserve his nomination.
I found him very endearing but sad in this movie.
A very believeable performance of a broken man!!!!

The young black actress Shareeka Epps should have been nominated.
She reminds me of a young Janet Jackson.
This is a young talent to watch!!!

Well I can add "The Departed" to my list!!!:=D:
As with all Scorsese films...... it was great.
Definetely DiCaprio's movie.....I think it was his best part since "What's Eating Gilbert Grape' when I realized this was an actor with chops!

Wahlberg.....was it really an Oscar worthy performance.......NO!!

Damon should've been recognized instead but his part wasn't really a supporting role.

Ol' Jack....always great but I think we've seen this part in a few of his movies...."Here's Johnny"...a bit over the top!

Picture of the year so far but I haven't "The Queen" or "Babel" yet.

The Illusionist
Children of Men
Little Children
The Departed
The Black Dahlia
Half Nelson
Superman Returns
The Devil Wears Prada
Little Miss Sunshine

I think that's it...i plan on watching some more before the awards show

The Departed
Little Miss Sunshine
Notes on a Scandal
The Devil Wears Prada
The Illusionist
Cars
Superman Returns
Happy Feet

Well the day before the Oscars we rented "Babel."
Now I had no desire to see this movie at all based on the previews.
All it showed was Brad & Cate and her being shot etc.
It looked very boring to me and I thought......not my kinda movie!
Then it started getting all these awards/nominations so i realized there was more to it.

Watched it and was just transfixed!
Adrianna Barraza was amazing and I thought she should've won....didn't see "Dream Girls" and Jennifer's performance so.......
The whole movie was great and I thought it was better than "Departed"
& "Little Miss" didn't see the other two.

Rinko Kikuchi was also stellar.

I thought that the Oscars as a whole was pretty boring but was glad Melissa Etheridge won and also Alan Arkin.

SEE YA AT THE MOVIES................

I still haven't seen the Departed so I can't comment on Best Film.
I'm happy enough with Helen Miren winning best actress - Dame Judy would have been my first pick though.
I haven't seen Dream Girls either, but I am really disappointed that neither Adrianna Barraza, nor Rinko Kikuchi won for best supporting actress. They were both excellent performances.

I wanted Little Miss Sunshine to get Best Picture, not only because I thought it was a fantastic film, but also because it made me laugh, at a time in the world when nothing much makes me laugh (from the gut, that is ----except, perhaps, the exploits of my fellow jubbers, bless'em!).

And, whilst there've been mixed reports on Ellen's performance, I loved her......she ought to be made an honorary Australian, I reckon, and I hope to see her hosting again next year.

As for the music, I thought James Taylor and Melissa were both way below par, performance wise. It was a bit embarressing actually.

Not sure if it was nominated for anything in the recent Oscars, but I just saw "Letters from Iwo Jima". I tell you, that Clint Eastwood is a fine, fine director. Quite an achievement...| ..| ..|
