I'm so excited about these i might even set my alarm to watch it live.

Good luck to Kate Winslet. I hope she picks up her 5th Oscar nomination. :gogirl:

We'll all be up watching, but of course all the nominees will be sound asleep, and will later say they'd forgotten all about it, and were woken up when their publicist called...

I think there will be some huge surprises this year - not for picture or actress, those are locked (I agree with the picture list above; actress should be Mirren, Cruz, Dench, Winslet, and Streep), but actor is wide open after the three certainties - Forest Whitaker, Leonardo DiCaprio (for which movie, though?), and Will Smith. Who'll fill the last 2 slots? Peter O'Toole with his 8th nomination? Venus is small and hasn't made much of an impression. Sacha Baron Cohen? I'm hoping Ryan Gosling sneaks in for Half Nelson. I suppose Edward Norton for The Painted Veil is far too faint a hope?

The supporting categories are wide open, with only Eddie Murphy a shoo-in for s. actor; I'm guessing Djimon Hounsou (who I'd like to see win)...beyond that?? I'll hope without much hope for Mark Wahlberg for The Departed; Alan Arkin should get one for Little Miss Sunshine, but Steve Carrell might slip in also. Or will they go for star power: Brad Pitt for Babel, Ben Affleck for Hollywoodland?

S. actress: Jennifer Hudson (I'm biting my tongue, I'm biting my tongue...) is a shoo-in, and - ?? Rinko Kikuchi and Adriana Barraza???? for Babel??? Cate Blanchett for Notes on a Scandal? Abigail Breslin, probably, for Little Miss Sunshine, and maybe Toni Collette? My hope: Emily Blunt, who should win it, for The Devil Wears Prada.

And will Clint Eastwood manage another nomination, hopefully for Letters From Iwo Jima? It's a tough field, with those 5 picture nominations locked...but he deserves it more than any of them except Scorsese.

I'll be up at the crack of dawn in California, blearily sipping my coffee...

Ummmm Sean Penn doesn't have the official list. Those ^^^^^^ are his predictions.

Watched It live a few minutes ago!:=D: ..|

Jackie Earle Haley was excellant in Little Children!:=D: Good choice!

I wonder how big of a stink there will be over Dreamgirls????

I don't know.....it absolutely deserved the noms for costumes and orginal songs but because it didn't get nominated for the BIG ONE I think some people might get in a tizzy about it. I'm really surprised about Letters From Iwo Jima getting nominated. I bet that's the movie that bumped Dreamgirls out of the big nomination.

Wow, pretty exciting nominations. I don't think you can argue with any of them because if you say, for example, Jack Nicholson deserved a nomination, who does he replace? Same with "Dreamgirls." Personally, while I thought "The Departed" was good, I don't think it is best picture material. The story had a few holes. I also recently saw "Children of Men" and it deserved some acting nominations. Yay!!! Its nominated for cinematography. Well deserved.

Well, I am happy with the Best Actress nominations. And the Best Picture. I am only glad that Beyonce is nowhere in the list.

Curse of the Golden Flower got a recognition? Not bad.

GO LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE! The underdog, I LOVE THAT MOVIE! And I hope Abigail's nom will open people's eyes, and hopefully she'll steal some of Dakoyta's roles away.. she's so much cuter and so muc more talented as an actress!

LMAO AT BEYONCE! All her fans were deadlocked she was gonna get a nom! NOT, girl ca't act!

Woohoo for Kate Winslet.

I was hoping Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing would get a nom in the best documentry category but no such luck. An Inconvenient Truth is basicallly a lock for the win anyway.

I thought Brad Pitt would get nominated in the Best Actor category so I'm a little surprised not to see him there.

Ellen is definitely going to liven the show up.

Only thing better whoulda been Whoppi. (Note: serious).

Not yet released in France... can't say...

The nominees for Best Picture are "The Departed," "Babel," "Letters From Iwo Jima," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Queen."
Hard choice... but I've not seen "Babel" nor "Iwo Jima", yet, and "The Departed" sucked... so I'd say "Little Miss Sunshine".

The nominees for Best Actor are Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland"), Leonardo DiCaprio ("Blood Diamond"), Ryan Gosling ("Half Nelson"), Peter O'Toole ("Venus") and Will Smith ("The Pursuit of Happyness").
I didn't saw any of these films... ouch ! I become a stay-at-home boy...:( (well... some of them are not yet on screen here...)

The nominees for Best Actress are Helen Mirren ("The Queen"), Judi Dench ("Notes on a Scandal"), Penelope Cruz ("Volver"), Meryl Streep ("The Devil Wears Prada") and Kate Winslet ("Little Children").
Helen Mirren, of course.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Eddie Murphy ("Dreamgirls"), Alan Arkin ("Little Miss Sunshine"), Jackie Earle Haley ("Little Children"), Djimon Hounsou ("Blood Diamond") and Mark Wahlberg ("The Departed").
Alan Arkin.

Eastwood, always Eastwood... but I can't believe they haven't selected Guillermo del Toro... maybe among foreign movies ? (with the frenchie "Indigènes" ?)

Congratulations little Abigail Breslin! She was so freakin' cute in that movie.
FINALLY some recognition for Ryan Gosling!
Guillermo Del Toro is a genius and Pan's Labyrinth was nothing short of breathtaking; I'm so proud of him and Alejandro Innaritu for Babel.
For the first time in a LONG TIME the best actresses living today are all nominated the same year (Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and of course the QUEENS Judi Dench and Meryl Streep)

(Pssst Ms. Hudson: start making a space on your mantle NOW)

And the winners will be: Letters/Eastwood/Whitaker/Mirren/Murphy/Hudsen (unless Scorsese and Depated get the old man voter sympathy vote, which is a real possibility.)

Were these really your predictions? Or were they the ones you wanted to be nominated? Because I can't see for the life of me why anyone would predict 'The Lives of Others' would be nominated for Best Picture or Joseph Cross for Best Actor.

Nominations were msotly predictable with a few shockers:

-No supporting actor for Jack Nicholson
-No nomination for Leonardo Dicaprio in The Departed
-Dreamgirls shut out for Best picture (shocking to me b/c they won Best Musical/Comedy at the GGs)
-Best Achievement in Makeup -- Click? Are you kidding me? How can sucha crappy, crappy movie get nominated for an Oscar, even if it's technical?

And a few pleasant surprises:

-Ryan Gosling for Best Actor (not nominated at GGs, but EW predicted correctly)
-Abigail Breslin (same as Ryan. I love this girl. She probably won't beat Jennifer Hudson, but she's only, like, 10).
-Jackie Earle Haley for Best Supporting Actor. Talk about a comeback. A washed up child actor coming out of nowhere after over a decade and getting a nomination.

I just saw Little Miss Sunshine recently. The movie was good, but does it really deserve a nominee for Best Picture?!? I love Steve Carrell (big fan of The Office). It was funny at some parts, and yet dramatic in other parts. But was it really the best movie of the year?
