I'm really surprised Three 6 Mafia won for Best original song!! lol

Meryl Streep and Lilly Tomlin on a crack-binge.

Hey, if it happens for those who are hurting or burning in anger from 'Brokeback Mountain''s Best Picture loss ...

- Philip Seymour Hoffman won for a gay role.
- Tom Hanks won for a gay role.
- Hilary Swank won for a gay role.
- William Hurt won for a gay role.
- Charlize Theron won a gay role.
- 'Brokeback Mountain' won MANY, MANY, MANY Best Picture awards this Oscar season.
- More people saw 'Brokeback Mountain' than 'Crash' according to Box Office numbers.

Maybe that helps ya'll a little.

I really thought that Brokeback and Transamerica were going to be the big winners. But then I thougt, Heath and Jake are two handsome to take the awards. Of course, they always go to older, less attractive men like Phillip. The girls were no surprise either. Look at Michelle and look at Rachel. Rachel is somewhat better looking than Michelle. For the women, the awards hardly ever go to anyone over 40 which explains why Reese got it instead of Felicity.

I still don't understand how a movie can get best screenplay and best director and not get best movie. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I agree. How can that happen. For these people who are glad Crash won, I wish they would explain this.

Crash for me is just the better movie; can't really explain why but the movie is just as special as BBM

Crash won Best Orignal Screenplay and Editing so that balances it out somewhat...

I agree. How can that happen. For these people who are glad Crash won, I wish they would explain this.

I thought it was powerful, and it really made you think. My heart stopped beating at one point during that film because it was so intense. It takes the racism issue to a whole new level, and it's realistic and scary at the same time.

Yup, thats the same way I felt when I watched CRASH, I mean the scene where the african-american woman is stuck in her car because of the car crash and then the "cop" gets there I mean, that just I dunno its quite a strong movie. I liked it more than Brokeback Mountain

It's really strong. And the part where the little girl...well I don't want to ruin it, but you know what I mean. I froze during that part.

Three Six Mafia winning was the highlight for me. Their performance was great as well.

a fair share of them deserved a prize - but got it often for the wrong movies.

You took the words right out of my mouth - this was exactly the observation I was going to make.

Two more examples:

Judi Dench wins for Shakespeare In Love - she was hardly in the damn movie! They passed her over a year earlier on her more accomplished performance in Mrs. Brown and could have more deservedly given her the Oscar for ANY other work she's done than the one she won for.

Denzel Washington wins for Training Day - he was average in that one, and really should have won it for his outstanding performance as Malcolm X in my opinion - or again, almost ANY of his other major roles.

P.S....

Oscar actors/actresses that SHOULD NOT have won the prize:

Roberto Benigni for Life Is Beautiful - just because he acted like a buffoon, charmed the Academy, and made people laugh is NOT a worthy reason for an automatic Oscar.

Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight - just because someone dies is NOT a reason to automatically guarantee an Oscar. Does anyone seriously think he'd have still got it if he had still been alive?

Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton - just because the Academy felt that they MUST give a George Clooney produced movie an Oscar, and threw it a consolation one for, of all things, supporting actress. Wierd.

Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side - just because it is somehow 'felt' that it's an actress's 'time' is NOT a good enough reason for an obligatory Oscar.

The members of the Academy are not robots.

From the very beginning of the Academy there has been an emotionel/sentimental aspect to the voting. There always will be. (Elizabeth Taylor in Butterfield 8 is a famous example.)

Brokeback lost becaause the "old guard" wasn't giving the Oscar to a film they described as the "gay cowboy" film.

However, though his death certainly had some thing to do with it, I do think the Keith Ledger Oscar was well deserved.

Yes. The other contenders are listed below and having seen all of them in action, I can assuredly say, in my opinion, that Ledger deserved his Oscar. And then some!

Josh Brolin – Milk as Dan White
Robert Downey, Jr. – Tropic Thunder as Kirk Lazarus
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Doubt as Father Brendan Flynn
Michael Shannon – Revolutionary Road as John Givings

One of the biggest surprises for me was Kate Winslet being nominated and winning for The Reader when I felt her performance in Revolutionary Road was far far superior.
